About The Position

The purpose of this position is to transfer products using an industrial forklift, hand lift, or pallet jack in a manner that complies with safety procedures, company, and USDA requirements. The role involves storing and moving product, operating pallet jacks between departments and buildings, and collecting/delivering materials while adhering to safety procedures. The operator will also ensure product and equipment are handled safely, perform routine servicing of equipment, and identify/report any mechanical issues. Additionally, the position requires maintaining a clean work area, performing safety inspections, loading/unloading trucks, assisting with inventory, keeping the dock area organized, and completing daily/weekly reports. The role also emphasizes teamwork, participation in team meetings, and fostering cohesiveness within the team. The operator is expected to be familiar with Simmons' operating systems and support their objectives, performing other duties as necessary to support business objectives.

Requirements

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain forklift license and pallet jack license.
  • Must be able to move or lift up to 50 pounds of supplies anywhere from floor to shoulder level.
  • Std waterproof gloves, hearing protection, chemical resistant apron & gloves, face shield, reinforced toe footwear.

Nice To Haves

  • Preference of poultry or food processing organization experience.
  • High School Diploma or GED.

Responsibilities

  • Stores and moves product using an industrial forklift, hand lift, or pallet jack.
  • Operates an electronic or hand-operated pallet jack between departments, buildings, and grounds.
  • Collects and delivers a wide variety of materials while adhering to established safety procedures.
  • Delivers materials to work areas as directed from the production supervisor.
  • Stacks materials in storage areas and loads/unloads shipments in trailers.
  • Ensures product or equipment being moved is undamaged and handled in a safe manner.
  • Performs routine servicing of equipment such as changing batteries, charging batteries, and checking tires.
  • Identifies any mechanical problems or damage with the pallet jack and ensures the problems are reported to the supervisor for further inspection and repair.
  • Detects and reports defective materials or questionable conditions to the department supervisor.
  • Maintains the work area and equipment in a clean, orderly condition and follows prescribed safety regulations.
  • Performs visual safety inspection of machine before operation.
  • Loads and unloads trucks, stacking and consolidating partial pallets.
  • Assists with inventory, correctly recording numbers and codes.
  • Keeps dock area clear and organized to ensure efficient work flow.
  • Completes and delivers daily and weekly reports to the floor supervisor.
  • Participates as a member of the Team, fostering strong cohesiveness and supporting team concepts, programs, and policies.
  • Accepts responsibility to quickly identify any areas that lack cohesiveness and works with the team to resolve issues.
  • Is familiar with Simmons' established operating systems and understands the responsibility to maintain familiarity and support these systems.
  • Performs other duties as necessary in support of business objectives.
