About The Position

The Forklift Operator role involves driving and operating forklifts to move materials throughout designated locations within various environments including warehouses, construction sites, and retail settings. This position requires coordinating with departments to ensure materials are in the necessary areas, managing inventory control through marking and scanning, and performing routine maintenance on equipment. The role also includes loading and unloading truck trailers, serving trailers for shipping and processing, and handling sending and receiving duties on the loading dock. The job requires applying acquired job skills and company policies to complete assigned tasks, with a need for occasional deviation from accepted practice. Competency in tasks beyond entry-level is expected, and the forklift driver will typically be assigned tasks to perform independently.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Familiar with the workings of a forklift.
  • Understands the logistics of the facility being worked in and to place items in the proper area.
  • Communication skills are essential in order to help the workflow and to maintain safety.
  • Valid driver’s license is required.
  • Must comply with quality, PPE requirements and safety and understand the importance of complying with safety policies and procedures.
  • Ability to lift heavy items.
  • Climb under and on top of machinery, trucks, storage racks, etc.

Responsibilities

  • Drive and operate forklifts to move materials throughout designated locations.
  • Coordinate with departments to position materials in necessary areas.
  • Move materials from and to materials center and shipping warehouse.
  • Stack/unstack materials for storage and shipping.
  • Present and remove materials from work areas.
  • Serve trailers to provide materials for shipping and processing.
  • Load and unload truck trailers.
  • Place items onto the forklift.
  • Ensure material is stored based on current and future needs.
  • Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting if equipment is not working properly.
  • Handle sending and receiving duties on the loading dock.
  • Mark and scan materials for inventory control.
  • Communicate with forklift drivers and workers to adjust movements.
