About The Position

The Forklift Operator position at Andersen Corporation's Bayport facility is responsible for safely and efficiently operating a forklift to support sorting, shipping, receiving, and material handling processes. This role involves adhering to standard work procedures, safety protocols, and quality specifications. The operator will also participate in continuous improvement initiatives, identify and resolve common issues, and engage in cross-training to maintain operational flexibility. Responsibilities include loading/unloading, checking in material, cross-docking, transporting materials, waste collection, and auditing compactor cans. The role also requires creating bills of lading, verifying deliveries, and staging materials for shipping and cross-docking. Advanced training may be provided to other operators, and collaboration with various departments like Supply Chain, Engineering, Maintenance, Fabrication, and Assembly is expected.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Basic (or intermediate) computer skills.
  • Knowledge of product, process, and customer expectations within the value streams.
  • Highly specialized knowledge of product and delivery requirements.
  • Ability to read invoices, packing slips, emails, and reports to determine correct delivery locations.
  • Must be able to operate multiple types of PIT (forklift, forklift with push/pull attachment, walkie rider, and sit down tuggers).
  • PIT training / PIT license required for all tasks.
  • Minimum 3 years forklift experience.
  • Knowledge of all product types and sizes to maximize van loading.
  • Expert forklift ability required to sort units and handle material from multiple areas throughout the plant.
  • Understanding of Tilt Wash and Casement mulling for specific sorting processes.
  • Ability to lift 75 pounds repetitively.
  • Ability to access and understand information from off systems/reports (WMS, MES, BAAN, shortage reports, etc.).
  • Ability to successfully complete training matrix.
  • General knowledge of Lockout/Tagout.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly, problem solve, and utilize teamwork competencies.
  • Dependability/punctuality.

Responsibilities

  • Safely, efficiently, and effectively operate a forklift in sorting, shipping, receiving, and material handling processes.
  • Adhere to standard work, JBA’s, control plans, work instructions, and quality specifications.
  • Comply with safety parameters to protect equipment, facility, and co-workers.
  • Support and participate in Continuous Improvement and capture daily Safety Interactions.
  • Identify problems and implement fixes for common issues using AMS tools and continuous improvement concepts.
  • Work in a safe manner and follow safe work practices and policies.
  • Rotate as required through multiple duties including sorting, loading/unloading, checking-in material, cross-docking, transporting material, collecting waste, and auditing compactor cans.
  • Engage in cross training to maintain flexibility and adaptability.
  • Follow specific loading/unloading processes; load units and material without fork damage.
  • Create bills of lading, fax invoices, verify deliveries, and ensure material is delivered to the correct location.
  • Stage material for inbound and outbound shipping as well as cross-docked material.
  • Provide advanced training as needed to other operators and work cross-functionally.
  • Assist with training co-workers.
  • Support a respectful workplace.
  • Adhere to “zero Waste to Landfill” guidelines.
  • Perform other assigned tasks thoroughly as assigned by Supervisor or management.
