About The Position

The Yard Crewmember assists customers in the lumberyard, operates a forklift, stocks products, and provides general store support. The position has no supervisory responsibilities.

The role includes customer service, loading and unloading merchandise, moving and organizing building materials, conducting routine forklift safety checks, maintaining the lumberyard and warehouse, verifying tickets against merchandise, protecting materials from weather, and cutting lumber or related materials as requested. The employee attends store meetings and training sessions and performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Ability to carry out a series of instructions without constant supervision.
• Ability to remain professional and courteous at all times.
• Knowledge of weight distribution and loading patterns.
• Ability to adjust machine or vehicle controls quickly and repeatedly to exact positions.
• Must successfully complete company training and certification requirements for equipment usage, including obtaining McCoy’s forklift certification.
• Forklift operator certification.
• Successful completion of on-the-job training, including levels 1 and 2 of the positional training offered.

Nice To Haves

• A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Greet customers as they enter the yard.
• Load and unload products into customer, vendor, and company vehicles safely and accurately.
• Respond to customer questions about products.
• Inform store management or a supervisor of customer complaints or requests in a timely manner.
• Move, stock, and rearrange building materials in the yard, warehouse, and interior of the store.
• Perform routine forklift safety checks according to company guidelines.
• Maintain the cleanliness and appearance of the lumberyard and warehouses by stacking products squarely and picking up bands, chocks, and trash.
• Verify that customer or vendor tickets match the merchandise being loaded.
• Cover exposed materials when required to prevent weather damage.
• Cut lumber and other related materials as requested by customers.
• Operate a forklift.
• Attend all store meetings and training sessions.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
