About The Position

The Forklift Operator - Shipping position involves driving and operating forklifts to move materials throughout designated locations within the facility. This role requires coordination with various departments to ensure materials are positioned correctly for storage, shipping, and processing. Responsibilities include moving materials to and from the materials center and shipping warehouse, stacking and unstacking materials, and presenting and removing materials from work areas. The operator will also serve trailers for shipping and processing, load and unload truck trailers, and place items onto the forklift. Additionally, the role involves performing routine maintenance and troubleshooting on equipment, handling sending and receiving duties on the loading dock, and marking and scanning materials for inventory control. Effective communication with other forklift drivers and workers is essential for adjusting movements and maintaining safety. This position requires the ability to perform semi-routine tasks independently, with occasional deviations from standard procedures, and tasks beyond entry-level competency.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Familiar with the workings of a forklift.
  • Understands the logistics of the facility and how to place items in the proper area.
  • Communication skills are essential for workflow and safety.
  • Valid driver’s license is required.
  • Must comply with quality, PPE requirements and safety.
  • Understand the importance of complying with safety policies and procedures.
  • Ability to lift heavy items.
  • Ability to climb under and on top of machinery, trucks, storage racks, etc.
  • Near acuity: clarity of vision at 20 inches or less.
  • Far acuity: clarity of vision at 20 feet or more.
  • Depth Perception: Three-dimensional vision. Ability to judge distances and spatial relationships to see objects where and as they actually are.
  • Accommodation: Adjustment of lens of eye to bring an object into sharp focus. This factor is required when doing near point work at varying distances from the eye.
  • Field of vision: Observing an area that can be seen up and down or to right or left while eyes are fixed on a given point.
