We’re looking for a dependable, safety-conscious team player who is forklift certified and thrives in a fast-paced retail processing environment. You support daily back-of-house operations by safely handling, sorting, and moving recyclable and donated merchandise, operating forklifts, maintaining recycling equipment, and processing waste streams with accuracy. Working closely with the Merchandise Processing Team, you help ensure smooth merchandise flow across all sub-departments while contributing to operational efficiency, sustainability initiatives, and safety compliance.

Requirements

  • Valid Forklift Certification with at least 1 year of experience operating forklifts in a warehouse or material-handling environment.
  • 1+ year of operational efficiency and reliability demonstrated through consistent productivity in warehouse or recycling operations.
  • Technical and mechanical proficiency in operating forklifts, balers, or compactors (minimum 1 year preferred).
  • Open availability, including weekends, holidays, and closing shifts.
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, twisting, and moving throughout the shift.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and push/pull rolling containers up to 500 lbs.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience operating a forklift, bailer, or garbage compactor.
  • Previous work in a thrift retail environment.

Responsibilities

  • Offload, sort, and organize donated merchandise and recyclable material into correct bins and categories.
  • Weigh, label, and record incoming items, keeping bins in proper date order.
  • Assist in sorting recyclable, ragged, and unsellable merchandise according to SOPs and environmental guidelines.
  • Safely operate forklifts, balers, compactors, and other recycling equipment to load, unload, relocate, and bale merchandise.
  • Relocate re-routed bins and replenish sub-department stock levels based on workflow needs.
  • Execute proper disposal, baling, and compaction procedures to support waste management and sustainability efforts.
  • Monitor garbage levels, donation bins, and compactor capacity to prevent overflow and maintain constant workflow.
  • Support receiving, recycling, and back-stock organization, including documenting weights, dates, and vendor information.
  • Assist with sale-day preparation and general operational tasks.
  • Complete pre-operational forklift checks and follow all equipment safety protocols without exception.
  • Wear required PPE, practice safe lifting, and maintain safe equipment operation at all times.
  • Keep processing, donation, and recycling areas clean, organized, and free of hazards.
  • Report any incidents, hazards, equipment issues, or safety concerns immediately to management.
  • Follow loss-prevention procedures and adhere to all company safety and housekeeping standards.
