About The Position

The Forge Operator is responsible for forging aluminum slugs into parts using a forge press. This role involves following production orders, job tickets, and supervisor directions to produce parts according to work instructions. The operator must verify material correctness and dimensions, set up and remove dies, and perform checks on equipment. A thorough understanding of press settings, slug location, tolerances, temperature settings, tonnage, alloys, and lube mixtures is required. The position also entails identifying and correcting defects, completing paperwork, reporting equipment issues, monitoring DAS stations and furnace operations, inspecting dies, and notifying Quality of any issues. Daily timekeeping and production reporting are also key responsibilities, along with reporting unusual or unsafe conditions and actively participating in maintaining a safe work environment.

  • Ability to work assigned shift and remain awake and alert during assigned shift is required
  • Reporting to work for assigned shift, maintaining a physical presence and performing assigned work for the duration of assigned shift is required
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with all levels of the organization
  • Good verbal, interpersonal, and written communication skills
  • Able to communicate clearly, concisely and achieve intended objectives
  • Ability to work in a variety of environments which may include exposure to extreme heat, humidity, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, loud noise, and all weather conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Work from production order, job ticket and/or direction of supervisor
  • Follow work instructions to produce parts
  • Verify the material to be forged is correct and the dimensions are according to specifications
  • Set-up Maxi and Screw presses
  • Set-up and remove different dies
  • Perform checks on die and bolster plate bolts
  • Understand press settings and troubleshoot settings when necessary
  • Understand proper slug location, tolerances, temperature settings, tonnage, alloys and lube mixtures
  • Identify defects/non-conforming marks in the forged parts and make appropriate corrections
  • Complete appropriate paperwork such as visual inspection records, daily checklists, routing sign offs, etc
  • Identify issues with the equipment and notify supervisor and/or maintenance
  • Monitor DAS stations to ensure proper operation of press, part rate, and temperature
  • Monitor furnace temperature and speed to ensure proper heating of slugs and/or parts
  • Inspect dies after use and tag dies requiring further inspection or rework
  • Notify Quality of quality issues
  • Maintain daily timekeeping, production, and interventions on computer systems
  • Report unusual or unsafe conditions to supervisor
  • Actively participate in efforts to establish and promote a safe and healthy work environment. Follow policies, programs, and procedures for the reduction and elimination of work related accidents and provide feedback to promote safer work behaviors and conditions.
