About The Position

The Alabama Cooperative Extension System is seeking qualified applicants for a Forestry, Wildlife, and Natural Resources Extension Agent – Central Region of Alabama. This position is a 100% Extension assignment covering nine counties. The Agent will most likely be housed at the Chilton County office, with St. Clair or Shelby County offices considered as secondary alternatives. The Program Priority Area is Forestry, Wildlife and Natural Resources, and the Geographic Area of Responsibility is the Central Alabama Region (St. Clair, Jefferson, Shelby, Bibb, Chilton, Autauga, Elmore, Lowndes, and Montgomery Counties). Requirements

  • Level 1: Bachelor’s degree and 0 years of experience.
  • Level 2: Bachelor’s degree and 4 years of experience or Master’s degree and 2 years of experience.
  • Focus of Education: Discipline related to extension programming.
  • Focus of Experience: Experience implementing, managing, or delivering educational programs in a relevant discipline, including formal and/or informal teaching methods.
  • Requires regular travel to carry out Extension responsibilities.
  • Must have access to reliable transportation.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Forestry or Wildlife Management with a minimum GPA of 2.75, or a Bachelor’s degree in a related field with a minimum GPA of 2.75 and at least two years of experience.
  • A Master’s degree is preferred and does not require experience to apply.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary Extension educator for forestry, wildlife, and natural resources in the assigned ten-county region.
  • Respond to requests for forestry, wildlife, and natural resources related technical information from throughout the region via telephone calls, email, letters, and other personal contacts.
  • Proactively develop a regional technology transfer program through meetings, workshops, publications, web sites, and other outreach techniques to provide forestry, wildlife and natural resources related information to landowners, professionals, and the general public.
  • Participate as a member of a state-wide Extension Priority Program Team to plan, promote, and execute team programs, and participate in team training opportunities.
  • Utilize all available/emerging technologies in educational efforts, as well as traditional methods like newsletters, news articles, workshops/group meetings, demonstrations, and farm/home visits.
  • Participate in writing grants and activities that support applied research/demonstrations beneficial to clientele.
  • Participate in regional and state FWNR associations, and other groups representing FWNR, to develop a reputation as an educational leader with the Alabama Cooperative Extension System.
  • Assist team leader and administrators in project outcome and impact evaluations.
  • Participate as a cohesive team member working with local clientele, advisory groups, volunteers, and other interested parties to determine regional needs for program outreach.
  • Partner with other EA’s and CEDs to provide educational leadership in planning, implementing, evaluating, and reporting programs conducted in the region.
