About The Position

Help keep Round Rock’s urban forest healthy, safe, and beautiful! If you enjoy working outdoors, care about the environment, and want to make a visible impact across our parks and public spaces, this might be the perfect role for you. As a Forestry Technician, you’ll provide hands-on tree care throughout City parks, rights-of-way, and other public properties. This role is active, engaging, and essential to maintaining a thriving urban canopy. You’ll work with a variety of tools, equipment, and even interact with community volunteers during tree planting events.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • At least 1 year of experience as a forestry technician or similar fieldwork.
  • Valid Class C Driver’s License required.
  • Ability to obtain a CDL within 6 months of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Prune street and park trees, including hazardous limb removal and storm cleanup.
  • Plant new trees and support community planting events.
  • Mulch, stake, fertilize, and water young trees using a water truck.
  • Monitor overall tree health and report concerns.
  • Install new irrigation lines, perform regular checks, and make repairs.
  • Weed, fertilize, and apply herbicides when needed.
  • Perform maintenance on vehicles and equipment twice monthly.
  • Clean, sharpen, and maintain chainsaws, power pruners, pole saws, and related tools.
