About The Position

Rayonier is seeking motivated students for Operational Forestry Internships and Forestry Research Internships. Operational Forestry Interns will gain exposure to timber sales, silvicultural planning, forest management, and other aspects of Rayonier’s forestry operations. Assignments may include conducting field measurements, completing field reconnaissance, mapping, timber inventory, supporting timber market research, using GIS software, and assisting with timber sales and silvicultural planning. The Forestry Research Intern will gain hands-on experience supporting Rayonier’s silvicultural and genetic research programs. Assignments may include installing and monumenting research trials, supporting seed orchard activities, collecting DNA samples, assisting with greenhouse operations and research seedling production, conducting mapping and other research activities using GIS, and supporting additional forestry research projects. The research internship is based in Alamo, Georgia, and may require travel throughout Southeast Georgia and Florida.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled as a freshman, sophomore, junior, senior, or graduate student
  • Pursuing a degree in Forestry, Forest Management, Forest Engineering, Natural Resources, or a closely related field
  • Available for a 10- to 12-week summer internship
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently and collaboratively
  • Follow all company safety policies and procedures
  • Willing to travel as required by the assignment
  • Provide reliable personal transportation
  • Access to a four-wheel-drive vehicle and be able to safely navigate forest roads
  • Comfortable working independently in remote outdoor locations
  • Able to work in varying weather and field conditions, including heat, rain, and uneven terrain

Responsibilities

  • Conducting field measurements using forestry tools and data recorders
  • Completing field reconnaissance, mapping, and timber inventory assignments
  • Supporting timber market research and analysis
  • Using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software
  • Assisting with timber sales and silvicultural planning
  • Supporting additional forestry projects as assigned
