About The Position

Step into a meaningful career with the Department of Agriculture as a Forester. In this position, you will support efforts to manage forests, control pests, and assist landowners across the state. You will develop important skills in inspection, mapping, communication, and field leadership. This is an opportunity to make a real impact on the health of Pennsylvania forests. DESCRIPTION OF WORK This position focuses on inspecting properties, evaluating forest health, and supporting decisions related to treatment and tree management. As a Forester, you will perform the following duties: Property Inspections: Lead inspections, identify host trees, assess insect activity, and evaluate factors related to tree removal or treatment Mapping Work: Use aerial imagery, GIS, GPS, and other tools to map treatment areas and inventory host trees Tree Analysis: Analyze collected tree data to recommend removal, disposal, or treatment methods for properties Contract Coordination: Prepare contracts, answer questions, resolve issues, and support communication with contractors and landowners Public Outreach: Present information at meetings, events, and discussions with local officials and community members Quality Control: Perform final inspections of treatment sites and ensure work meets established standards Interested in learning more? Requirements

  • Two years of technical forestry experience, and an associate’s degree in forest technology, forestry, forest management, forest ecosystem management, urban forestry, forest science, agroforestry, or a related forestry degree
  • A bachelor’s degree in forest technology, forestry, forest management, forest ecosystem management, urban forestry, forest science, agroforestry, or a related forestry degree
  • A master’s degree in forest technology, forestry, forest management, forest ecosystem management, urban forestry, forest science, agroforestry, or a related forestry degree
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree
  • Possess a valid PA non- commercial Class C driver’s license or equivalent
