About The Position

Humboldt Redwood Company (HRC) is looking for a Forester to join our team based in Scotia, CA. This is an exempt position with an annual salary of $72,000 - $84,000.00. Your final base salary compensation will be determined based on factors such as geographic locations, skills, education, and/or experience. Please keep in mind the range published is the full base salary. The Mendocino Companies (Mendocino Forest Products Company, Mendocino Redwood Company, Humboldt Redwood Company, Humboldt Sawmill Company, and Allweather Wood) own nearly 450,000 acres of Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC® C031337) certificated redwood and Douglas-fir timberland, constitute the largest waterborne wood treater in the Western USA, and is the largest producer of redwood lumber in the world. Collectively providing 950 employees and their families with excellent wages and benefits in communities throughout the Western USA. Additionally, the Mendocino Companies own and operate a 25-megaWatt biomass cogeneration power plant and wood pellet plant.

Requirements

  • The employee must have the ability to use a directional compass, GPS unit, and topographical maps to navigate terrain and conduct fieldwork accurately.
  • Must maintain and carry a valid driver license and remain eligible and capable of operating company vehicles including automobiles and trucks in accordance with company policy guidelines.
  • Capable of safely and effectively operating (run, maneuver, navigate and drive in various types of territory) all-terrain vehicles in accordance with company policy guidelines, training is provided.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s Degree in forestry or related field preferred but not required
  • 2-3 years related forestry or related field experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience is preferred but not required

Responsibilities

  • Logging and road contract administration
  • Conduct road inventories and administer maintenance activities
  • THP preparation involving field reconnaissance, mapping, and operational flagging as instructed by RPF
  • THP Watercourse classification pursuant the California Forest Practice Rules (CFPRs)
  • THP Identification and mapping of unstable areas
  • Conduct timber marking and timber cruising
  • Implement prescribed burning projects
  • Communicate effectively with RPF and Forest Manager
