About The Position

The Forester conducts forestry and timber management work on tribal lands. The role establishes boundaries and silvicultural prescriptions; performs timber marking, cruising, stumpage appraisals, and mapping; and conducts timber sales. It also maintains continuous forest inventory and stand exam programs, including inventories, mapping, data entry, and report generation. The Forester identifies and completes forest development and protection projects, operates and maintains forestry tools and equipment, removes hazard trees and stumps, and participates in emergency response situations.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in forestry or a related field, or ten years of demonstrated experience in place of the degree.
• Valid regular driver’s license.
• Must be at least 21 years of age.
• Must successfully pass applicable background checks and drug screens.

Nice To Haves

• CDL preferred.
• Five years of demonstrated experience in forest management.

Responsibilities

• Establish boundary locations and silvicultural prescriptions.
• Complete timber marking, timber cruising, stumpage appraisals, and mapping to determine timber sale cut and residual volumes and values.
• Conduct timber sales on tribal lands.
• Maintain the continuous forest inventory and stand exam programs, including sampling inventories, mapping, data input, and report generation.
• Identify and complete forest development and forest protection projects, including addressing insects, disease, and trespass issues.
• Operate hand tools, power tools, and a chainsaw safely.
• Operate heavy equipment as needed.
• Perform routine maintenance on Forestry equipment as needed.
• Remove hazard trees and stumps.
• Participate in emergency response situations.
