About The Position

Coos Forest Protective Association (CFPA) is currently accepting applications for a Permanent Forest Officer (12-month) in the Coos Bay Unit. This role involves enforcing Oregon Forest Laws and administering local fire prevention programs. The officer will maintain contact with forest operators, landowners, and the public, educating them on forest laws and fire programs. Key aspects include fostering positive working relationships with local fire departments and cooperators, and the ability to work effectively in a team, either as a member or leader. The position also requires training and leading crews in wildland fire suppression, pre-suppression, fire prevention, and safety. Additionally, responsibilities include overseeing and contributing to the maintenance, repair, and minor construction of fire equipment, buildings, grounds, and landscaping. The role necessitates the completion of various reports and documents, such as fire reports, preliminary fire investigations, and participation in Industrial Fire Inspection and Smoke Management Programs.

Requirements

  • Ability to pass and maintain the physical fitness level necessary (Arduous), which will be tested on a yearly basis
  • Ability to obtain a Class “B” Commercial Driver’s License with tanker and air brake endorsements
  • Operation of 4-wheel drive pickups and larger vehicles in various road conditions and during fire situations
  • Successful candidates will be subject to a driving background check with the Department of Motor Vehicles

Nice To Haves

  • A current/valid Oregon Driver’s License with a Class “C” or higher

Responsibilities

  • Training and leading crews in wildland fire suppression, pre-suppression, fire prevention and safety activities
  • Overseeing and contributing to the performance of unit maintenance, repair and minor construction projects of fire equipment, buildings, grounds, and landscaping through the unit
  • Completion of various reports and documents including, but not limited to fire reports, preliminary fire investigations
  • Participation in Industrial Fire Inspection and Smoke Management Programs
