We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Foreperson to join our growing telecommunications company that is redefining the data network industry. This position is located in Pasco, Washington, and is responsible for overseeing our Columbia Basin region telecom installation crew members. This is a full-time, non-exempt hourly position, eligible for overtime and paid bi-weekly. The Lightspeed Networks Foreperson installs and repairs fiber optic telecommunications systems and equipment and works under the supervision of the Regional Field Manager to install and maintain Lightspeed Networks’ physical network.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of 5-10 years of experience in telecommunications, with specific experience in aerial construction and maintenance.
  • Proven track record of leading teams in a field environment, preferably in a supervisory or foreperson role.
  • Experience in working with fiber optic installations and maintenance is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with industry safety standards and practices, including OSHA regulations.
  • Previous experience in project management or coordination within a telecommunications setting is advantageous.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage and motivate a team effectively.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities, with a keen eye for identifying potential issues and implementing solutions promptly.
  • Proficient in interpreting technical drawings and schematics related to telecommunications infrastructure.
  • Ability to operate aerial lift equipment and other machinery relevant to telecommunications installations.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to liaise with team members, management, and clients effectively.
  • Exceptional organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Knowledge of telecommunications industry standards and best practices, including familiarity with the latest technologies and trends.
  • Commitment to maintaining high safety standards and ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations and guidelines.
  • Possess a valid CDL driver's license (or within 30 days of hire) and a clear driving record.

Responsibilities

  • Use appropriate hand and power tools to properly measure, cut, bend, assemble and erect all components necessary for lifting, moving and installing plant materials in accordance with the applicable plans, specifications, codes and industry standards.
  • Build aerial plant to customer specifications to include framing poles, placing new strand, lashing new cable to bare strand, over lashing cable to existing strand and cable.
  • Installing anchors and down guys, snowshoes, placing FST fiber terminals, grounding & bonding of strand, placement of riser guards, trimming trees, pulling of cable/fiber short distances in conduit, installing pole mounted cabinets, placing ground rods and installing VGR’s on poles, swapping lashers on poles either from a bucket truck or from hooks/ladders.
  • Dismantles, moves, and removes aerial, underground or building wire, cable associated equipment and hardware.
  • Connects wires and cables to terminals and attaches/detaches various kinds of hardware to wires, cables, building, or poles.
  • Supervise and direct field crew.
  • Train new hires in safe work practices.
  • Schedule projects, coordinate with cities and subcontractors.
  • Lead, complete, and sign off on daily pre-job safety planning in the appropriate format.
  • Identify safety hazards you or other employees may be subject to and take all necessary corrective action to eliminate or mitigate hazards.
  • Assure all crew members understand, participate, and sign all pre-job safety planning tools at start and end of shift.
  • Reports all accidents and near misses to supervisor.
  • Repairs and maintains major cable/fiber system and structures such as broken lashing, replacing or re-sagging aerial strand, pole transfers, down-guys, aerial to underground conversion, make ready, clearance issues, VGR’s and all grounding and bonding functions as per NESC, & NEC code.
  • All work must meet NESC, NEC, local utility, State DOT and municipality rules, regulations and codes.
  • Deploying and removing various traffic control devices that protect the work area while on a street or roadway.
  • Supervise ground hands and lineman to ensure safety and productivity
  • Complete daily time sheets and daily production update reports.
  • Complete reports related to project status, progress, or other work details, using computer software.
  • Participate, adhere to and support all safety related policies, processes and programs.
  • Understand and respond appropriately to all safety hazards and warning devices (i.e., back-up alarms, smell of smoke or fumes, different colored warning tag, warning sirens.
  • Inspect crew members’ work for compliance with the contract plans, specifications, and industry standards.
  • Point out deficiencies, explain them, and take corrective action needed.
  • Examine/inspect field conditions and identify problems, inaccuracies, and cost saving measures that arise or that may be encountered.
  • Take corrective actions as needed reporting any issues to your supervision.
  • Operates power equipment such as compressors, pumps, blowers, hydraulic diggers, and hydraulic aerial bucket trucks
  • Perform all other actions necessary to accomplish the foregoing principal duties and accountabilities. This may require working in other crafts at levels appropriate to training and skills as requested by Construction Manager.
  • On call rotation responding and restoring services for emergency calls, responsible for being on the job at short notice to repair damaged cables until service is restored.
  • Manage material & tool inventory.
