Forensics Technician

About The Position

The Forensic Technician is responsible for the proper handling and management of all incoming data and evidence. They are also responsible for forensic acquisitions and reporting of media that arrives at the Austin forensics laboratory. They have sufficient technical skill to understand and address data issues, identify and navigate network problems, and provide support to our team of remote Forensic Examiners. The Forensic Technician also has the ability to communicate effectively to technical and non-technical customers, helping them meet their discovery deadlines.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of progressive technical experience with skills relevant to digital forensic collections and investigations.
  • Authorization to Work in the U.S.: Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship now or in the future. DISCO is not currently sponsoring visas, including, but not limited to, H-1B, TN, or EAD, and we are not accepting visa transfers.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the proper handling and management of incoming client data via physical media or forensic collection.
  • Creates and maintains a rigorous chain of custody for all media received.
  • Manages the logging and secure storage of physical media in accordance with procedures, maintaining the integrity and confidentiality of client data.
  • Responsible for deliveries and shipping of media to and from the organization to ensure client deadlines are met.
  • Performs media forensic image acquisitions, including workstations, hard drives, and mobile devices.
  • Deploys and documents remote collection devices, including tracking, billing, and configuration.
  • Creates preliminary forensic reporting from forensic images, including file listings, directory listings, and artifact triage reports.
  • Runs directory reports and custom scripts on all incoming data to copy and stage data for processing.
  • Identifies and troubleshoots issues encountered while working with data, and escalates them to senior team members or management as needed.
  • Delivers productions on encrypted hard drives to clients.
  • Manages the media lab and associated systems in accordance with DISCO procedures, including the media supply inventory.
  • Enters billable tasks into the billing system to accurately charge clients for media management and forensic services.
