About The Position

The Bear Creek School is seeking a Head Coach for the Forensics Team. This role involves leading and developing a competitive academic team that fosters student growth in communication, critical thinking, and character within a supportive and structured environment. The coach will mentor students, cultivate excellence in speech and debate, and contribute to a program that emphasizes both competitive success and personal development.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or extensive relevant experience required
  • Hold CPR/AED/First Aid certification (with epinephrine autoinjector supplement) or obtain certification within 90 days of employment start date
  • Currently authorized to work in the United States for any employer (sponsorship is not available for this position)
  • Able to use strong written and oral communication skills to transfer thoughts and express ideas
  • Flexible and adaptable in dealing with new, different or changing requirements
  • Maintain confidentiality and security of information
  • Hold self and others accountable to accomplish results
  • Effective in handling multiple concurrent tasks
  • Familiar with Microsoft Word and Outlook, ability to learn and work with the school’s integrated data-based software package as needed
  • Adhere to biblical standards in all areas of conduct

  • Experience in an educational setting and/or teaching experience desired

Responsibilities

  • Register and prepare students for local, regional, and national tournaments
  • Recruit, manage, and train all coaches and judges
  • Work with other internal departments (facilities, transportation, calendar manager, etc.) to secure logistics and resources for the team, e.g., practice space and buses
  • Serve as main point-of-contact for the annual Grizzlies Forensics Tournament
  • Show flexibility and understanding while working with students and families from a variety of circumstances and commitment levels
  • Partner with families and stakeholders regarding season progress, logistics, and tournament status and forward tournament results to the Communications office for Bear Facts e-newsletter and PR/website publication
  • Work collaboratively with teachers and other programs to reduce conflicts, partnering with teachers regarding academic progress and with the Athletics and Fine Arts programs to balance student commitment load and potential conflicts with other extracurricular activities
  • Create systems to foster community, encourage healthy internal competition, maximize teamwork, and reduce intra-squad rivalry
