About The Position

The FVS Consultant serves as a key contributor to client engagements, performing complex financial analyses and supporting expert testimony and advisory work. This role involves increasing responsibility for client interaction, project execution, and technical analysis. As a Consultant, you will lead defined sections of engagements, analyze and interpret financial and operational data, and assist in developing expert reports and courtroom exhibits. You will also mentor Associates, manage portions of projects, and help strengthen the FVS practice through continuous process improvement and knowledge sharing. This position is ideal for a professional with a strong technical foundation who is ready to expand their expertise in forensic accounting, business valuation, and litigation support while developing leadership and client-facing skills.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or related field required.
  • Minimum of two (2) to four (4) years of experience in public accounting, valuation, consulting, or forensic accounting.
  • Strong technical foundation in valuation methods, financial modeling, and forensic analysis.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and written/oral communication skills.
  • Microsoft Excel and Word (advanced proficiency required).
  • Experience with databases such as Capital IQ, PitchBook, and IBISWorld.
  • Microsoft Teams and Smartsheet for collaboration and workflow management.

Nice To Haves

  • CPA, ASA, ABV, or CVA designation preferred (or actively pursuing).
  • Experience collaborating with legal counsel, external auditors, or expert witnesses is a plus.
  • Familiarity with case management systems (e.g., Clio) preferred.
  • Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau) desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Perform detailed business valuations for transaction, tax, financial reporting, and litigation purposes.
  • Conduct forensic investigations involving allegations of fraud, economic damages, and financial misconduct.
  • Analyze complex financial data, business operations, and tax filings to identify trends, risks, and key value drivers.
  • Build and refine valuation and damages models using advanced Excel functions and financial modeling techniques.
  • Assist in developing client deliverables, including expert reports, financial exhibits, and visual presentations.
  • Conduct market, industry, and economic research using databases such as Capital IQ, PitchBook, and IBISWorld.
  • Apply valuation methodologies (income, market, and asset-based approaches) and document underlying assumptions and rationale.
  • Support expert witnesses and senior team members in preparing testimony and trial materials.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for assigned sections of client engagements, communicating effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Translate complex financial findings into clear, concise insights for clients, attorneys, and team members.
  • Help manage engagement timelines, deliverables, and project budgets.
  • Provide coaching and feedback to Associates, encouraging growth and continuous learning.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, integrity, and confidentiality in all client interactions.
  • Collaborate with team members across service lines to deliver comprehensive client solutions.
  • Contribute to a positive team culture centered on learning, quality, and accountability.
  • Participate in business development efforts, including proposal writing, marketing initiatives, and networking activities.
  • Support the creation and enhancement of internal tools, templates, and methodologies to improve engagement quality and efficiency.
  • Deliver internal trainings or contribute to firm-wide knowledge sharing.
  • Engage in professional development and continuing education related to valuation and forensic practices.
  • Represent Dean Dorton at professional and industry events to strengthen visibility and relationships.
  • Participate in firm committees or initiatives that advance the culture and strategic goals of Dean Dorton.
