About The Position

MindCare Solutions is seeking a Forensic/Correctional Psychiatrist to manage and provide overall direction and leadership for mental health services within a facility. This role is responsible for the administrative and clinical coordination of a comprehensive mental health care program for inmates/residents. The position involves conducting psychiatric assessments, prescribing and monitoring medications, creating individualized treatment plans, preparing reports, maintaining medical records, and collaborating with other healthcare and correctional staff. The psychiatrist will also handle crisis intervention, respond to legal proceedings, and ensure compliance with regulations.

Requirements

Board Certified or Eligible (within 1 year of residency completion) in Psychiatry
Active and unrestricted license in the state of NJ
Maintains an active Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification
Have excellent skills in diagnostic assessment and counseling
Sound clinical judgment, professionalism, and independence
Valid Driver's License is required
Active NJ DEA required

Nice To Haves

Forensic/correctional psychiatrist experience preferred

Responsibilities

Conduct comprehensive psychiatric assessments to diagnose mental health disorders among the incarcerated population.
Prescribe and monitor psychotropic medications ensuring that treatment plans are effective and adjusted as needed.
Create individualized treatment plans that include medication management, psychotherapy, and other interventions appropriate for the correctional setting.
Prepare progress reports; provide recommendations regarding discharge plans; make case presentations; and assist administrative and medical staff in development of statistical reports on assigned inmates/residents.
Maintain up to date medical records, ensuring compliance with facility policies, state regulations, and standards of care.
Maintain and monitor confidentiality of inmates/residents and their files; audit files to determine that all services provided are documented; review status of inmates/residents to verify that all treatment and therapeutic programs are completed.
Review, process and respond (via corporate counsel) to lawsuits; provide expert testimony or psychiatric evaluations for legal proceedings involving inmates under your care.
Read, analyze, comprehend and interpret technical procedures or governmental regulations, legal and non-legal documents, including the processing of such documents as medical instructions, commitment orders, summons and other legal writs.
Work closely with psychologists, social workers, nurses, and correctional staff to provide integrated and coordinated care.
Provide immediate psychiatric care in crisis situations, such as suicide attempts or acute psychiatric episodes, and work to prevent incidents through proactive mental health management.
Endeavor to comply with the requirements of applicable regulations, laws, rules, procedures, policies, standards and/or contract.
