About The Position

Regions Hospital in Saint Paul, Minnesota, is seeking compassionate and dedicated Forensic Nurse Examiners to join our Emergency Medicine Department team. Under the supervision of the Emergency Medicine Department (EMD) staff physician on duty, this role provides direct care to patients 13 years of age or older who indicate sexual assault has occurred within the past 240 hours or that intimate partner violence has occurred within the past 120 hours. In addition, this role conducts forensic suspect exams with a court order/search warrant in collaboration with law enforcement. Direct care includes documentation of the assault history and physical exam findings, forensic kit collection, as well as assessment of follow-up needs and community resource referrals. Testimony in a court of law regarding exam findings for victims and suspects is occasionally required. This role will attend a minimum of 6 staff meetings a year, as well as mandatory education sessions when new products or processes are introduced. Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an approved nursing, medical or PA school
  • Completion of a 40-hour SANE-A (adolescent/adult) course
  • Must attend or be registered for an approved SANE-A clinical skills lab prior to hire
  • Must possess a valid license as an RN, MD, or PA issued by the state of Minnesota
  • Current AHA CPR certification required

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred minimum of 24 months nursing experience
  • Completion of Intimate Partner Violence Nurse Examiner certificate program or Johns Hopkins Danger Assessment training. If one of these trainings are not completed prior to hire, staff will be required to complete within first year of employment
  • SANE- A Certification
