About The Position

Whitley Penn, a leading audit, tax, and advisory firm, is seeking a Forensic & Litigation Services (FLS) Associate for its Commercial & Intellectual Property Disputes department. This department provides analysis, advice, and expert testimony for intellectual property and commercial disputes. Associates will be assigned to client engagements, focusing on basic accounting and financial analysis projects under the guidance of Senior Associates and management. The role requires excelling in a dynamic environment, taking on new responsibilities, and upholding high ethical standards. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or economics.
  • 0-2 years of experience in public accounting, demonstrating progression in complexity, scope, and number of engagement assignments.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills to interact with team members, clients, attorneys, and referral sources both internally and externally.
  • Proficiency in technology and accounting programs including MS Office.
  • Skills in ethics and compliance, and financial standards, models, and tools.
  • Skills in project management.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in calculating economic damages for litigation matters including patent, trademark, and copyright infringement, theft of trade secrets, breach of contract, business valuation, solvency, fraud, business interruption, personal injury, wrongful death, and wrongful termination.
  • Organize, review, and summarize client-produced documents.
  • Research relevant information such as company records, entity filings, industry data, and product/technology features.
  • Assist in developing financial models and preparing exhibits that summarize financial information.
  • Support Senior Associates, Associate Directors, and Directors in delivering complete reports with supporting documents to the Managing Director for review.
  • Help prepare testifying experts for client meetings, depositions, and trials by ensuring well-organized files and binders with all necessary work papers and documents.
  • Attend client meetings with Partners and managers to define engagement scope and ongoing client expectations.
  • Serve as a "Buddy" to interns, assisting them in their assimilation into the department and firm.
