About The Position

Kaniksu Community Health is seeking a Forensic and Sexual Assault Nurse (PRN/on-call) to provide confidential, trauma-informed, patient-centered care to patients reporting sexual assault or abuse. This role involves performing comprehensive nursing assessments, addressing immediate medical, psychological, and safety concerns, and conducting specialized forensic examinations within your training and scope of practice. The nurse will be responsible for collecting, preserving, documenting, and maintaining chain of custody for forensic evidence, as well as accurately documenting medical and forensic findings. Responsibilities include explaining examination procedures, obtaining informed consent, respecting patient choices, and providing education, referrals, and connections to advocacy, counseling, medical follow-up, and community resources. The role requires collaboration with various professionals and agencies, and maintaining current MAST training and knowledge of trauma-informed and forensic nursing practices. This is an essential team member position charged with assisting patients in managing their care at Kaniksu Community Health, working under the direction of the KCH Director of Nursing, Director of Clinical Operations, and Medical Staff Providers as part of the Kaniksu Community Health Patient Centered Medical Home (PCMH) Team.

Requirements

  • Current, unrestricted Idaho RN license.
  • Graduation from an accredited nursing program.
  • Current BLS certification.
  • Strong clinical assessment, critical-thinking, communication, and documentation skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries.
  • Ability to remain calm and compassionate in emotionally challenging situations.
  • Experience in emergency, urgent care, women's health, pediatrics, behavioral health, or community health.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively with diverse populations and multidisciplinary teams.

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of a SANE (Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner) training program or equivalent.
  • Current SANE-A and/or SANE-P certification.
  • Previous SANE or forensic nursing experience.
  • Experience working with survivors of sexual assault, domestic violence, child abuse, or other trauma.
  • Knowledge of Idaho sexual assault reporting and forensic evidence collection requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with providers, nursing staff, behavioral health professionals, advocates, law enforcement, child protection agencies, and other community partners as appropriate.
  • Maintain current MAST training, competencies, and knowledge of trauma-informed and forensic nursing practices.
