About The Position

The General Foreman, Gas Inspector Contracted Services will train, direct, and supervise employees and contracted employees engaged in conducting Gas Leak surveys, the construction and maintenance of Gas line and Electric Underground utilities, concrete and asphalt paving, landscaping repair, large diameter directional drilling, ROW mowing and clearing. This role is responsible for the operation of the assigned section and the safe work practices of contracted crews and MLGW crews. The position involves preparing and reviewing necessary paperwork, supervising the proper operation/utilization of machinery, equipment, materials, and tools, and inspecting contractors' work to ensure adequate quantity and quality. The Foreman will also read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and other technical documents, determine underground interference, obtain clearances, investigate customer complaints, and operate division vehicles and related equipment.

Requirements

  • A valid driver's license from state of residence is required.
  • The appropriate certifications(s) for operator qualifications according to job responsibilities in gas distribution and/or transmission construction and maintenance within 1 year of entering the job is required.
  • High school diploma or General Education Development (G.E.D.) is required.
  • 4 years of experience as a Foreman or Inspector, Contracted Services in gas main/service installation and maintenance, gas leak detection/repair and installation of electric underground facilities is required.
  • Must successfully complete Foreman Assessment Center Exercises within 3 months from date of hire.
  • Must successfully complete NIMS training within 1 year of entering job.
  • Must have broad knowledge of gas construction and maintenance, and electric distribution system.
  • Must have an occupationally significant combination of knowledge of concepts and procedures in appraising contracted work, ability to read blueprints, ability to apply knowledge of legal business terminology and documentary regulations, leadership ability.

Responsibilities

  • Train, direct, and supervise employees within area of responsibility, with authority to appraise performance, discipline, and handle grievances.
  • Schedule, assign, and coordinate the inspection of contracted services and rights-of-way, and/or gas construction and maintenance.
  • Ensure safe work practices of contracted crews and MLGW crews.
  • Prepare and/or review necessary paperwork such as time and mileage, maintenance tickets, performance appraisals, damage claims, requisitions, and truck inventory records.
  • Supervise the proper operation/utilization of machinery, equipment, materials, and tools in the installation/maintenance of gas main/services, underground electric facilities, concrete and asphalt paving, landscaping repair, large diameter directional drilling, ROW mowing and clearing.
  • Inspect Contractors work to ensure an adequate quantity/quality of work is achieved; provide information and instruction to employees/contractors.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, block maps, grade stakes, GPS locations, etc.
  • Determine underground interference and location of services by checking records, maps, and files.
  • Contact appropriate personnel to locate underground interferences as necessary.
  • Obtain clearances for operating gas valves.
  • Investigate customer calls/complaints; work with claims representative in resolving issues.
  • Operate Division vehicle/radio, computer hardware/software applications and office equipment.
  • Perform other duties as directed.
