About The Position

The Underground Foreman position is a skilled position in the construction, maintenance and repair of electrical underground distribution systems. This role involves working safely on new construction, maintenance, or repair of energized and de-energized underground electrical systems. The Foreman is responsible for coaching crew members, possessing working knowledge of leadership and management skills, and capable of leading and training lower-skilled employees in safe and productive work procedures. They will also lead and teach underground services, infrastructure, and duct banks, conduct pre-job or tailgate briefings, and troubleshoot problems on underground circuits. This position frequently works with and around energized high voltage systems, requiring skill and care to protect themselves and others. The Foreman must maintain company vehicles, equipment, and tools, comply with reporting procedures, and complete required paperwork. They will coordinate and inspect the work of crew members, perform rigorous physical labor, and identify primary and secondary voltages on a circuit, including induced voltage. Knowledge of tools for cable termination, grounding procedures, obtaining a one-shot on a reclosure, working in confined spaces, and properly installing/removing PPE and cover-up are essential. The role also requires testing and classifying soil, safely operating equipment, phasing out a line using phasing sticks, planning safe work based on job prints or work orders, understanding sloping and shoring requirements, and knowing ladder requirements. The Foreman must be able to request and take line clearances, identify and locate underground pulling equipment, and possess knowledge of line protection devices. They will also properly inspect rubber goods and PPE, understand flag and tag procedures, and must be able to work outside, frequently in inclement weather, with a willingness to glove/work live high voltage distribution lines. All other related work required to complete the job will also be performed.

Requirements

  • 5-year minimum of recent field experience
  • 2 years in a leadership position.
  • Able to read and communicate effectively in English.
  • Must possess a CDL and demonstrates safe driving.
  • Able to travel long distances on short notice, when required.
  • Able to work for extended periods in various locations, when required.
  • Able to lift in excess of 50 lbs.
  • Able to properly inspect rubber goods and PPE.
  • Willing to work over-time when requested.
  • Willing to work outside of the normal work schedule including weekends, holidays, and overtime as required for the position.
  • Must be able to follow Company safety rules and all other Company policies.
  • Possesses working knowledge of leadership and management skills.
