About The Position

Kokosing is seeking a Structures Foreman to work on heavy highway projects in the Northern VA/DC/MD area. This role involves supervising and coordinating the activities of workers engaged in the construction, installation, and repair of roads, bridge structures, and fixtures. The Foreman is responsible for ensuring work is completed according to plans, specifications, and budget, while maintaining a strong focus on safety and crew management.

Requirements

  • Five years related experience and/or training.
  • Experience with structures for bridge and roadway work required.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews documents and plans, ensuring all questions are answered before proceeding with activities.
  • Examines blueprints, plans, and profiles to determine structure dimensions and road/pipeline grade or profile.
  • Works from surveyor’s layout and cutsheets to determine line and grade.
  • Directs and trains crew in performing work as shown on contract drawings and specifications within the production budget of the job estimate.
  • Acts as OSHA defined "competent person" on the job.
  • Selects materials and structural units (e.g., lumber, forms) to ensure conformance with Project provisions.
  • Plans ahead to ensure appropriate materials are available when needed.
  • Plans the sequence of activities on the Project in two-week schedule planning with the Superintendent and Project Engineer.
  • Assigns workers to tasks such as operating machinery, cutting material, building concrete forms, erecting framework, or laying pipe.
  • Inspects work performed by subcontractors to ensure conformance with specifications.
  • Supervises workers engaged in building structures such as cofferdams, support of excavation, and concrete forms.
  • Studies production schedules and estimates worker hour requirements for job completion.
  • Conducts daily "Huddle" with crew, explaining work to be accomplished and how it is to be accomplished; trains inexperienced crew members.
  • Interprets company policies to workers and enforces company disciplinary procedures.
  • Evaluates ongoing safety issues on the job and makes necessary changes.
  • Enforces safety regulations and the use of Personal Protective Equipment.
  • Establishes or adjusts work procedures to meet production schedules.
  • Recommends measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality.
  • Suggests changes in working conditions and equipment use to increase efficiency.
  • Analyzes and resolves work problems or assists workers in solving them.
  • Initiates or suggests plans to motivate workers to achieve work goals.
  • Maintains time and production records, including detailed and accurate time sheets with verified quantities and locations of work performed.
  • Keeps the job team informed of progress and problems.
  • Estimates, requisitions, and inspects materials.
  • Sets up machines and equipment and supervises their use.
  • Maintains a detailed daily job diary.
  • Holds meaningful weekly safety meetings for the crew and files reports on attendance and content.
  • Performs activities of workers supervised.
  • Minimizes punch lists and finishes work activities.
