About The Position

Southland Industries is seeking a Foreman Piping to schedule, coordinate, supervise, provide leadership, and ensure the safety and productivity of a small work crew. This role may act as a management liaison and/or designated client contact. The ideal candidate will facilitate a safe work culture, ensure crew members adhere to safety standards, and conduct weekly "toolbox" talks. Responsibilities include participating in safety investigations, ensuring a clean and organized work area, assessing crew member competency, assigning tasks, coordinating on-the-job training, and mentoring apprentices. The Foreman will also set work standards, outline behavioral expectations, promote teamwork, perform related craftwork, understand project plans and schedules, and ensure daily and weekly activities meet production goals. Additionally, the Foreman will identify and ensure the availability of necessary tools and materials, communicate plan/schedule deficiencies, translate work requirements into prioritized plans, review and adjust task schedules, advise the superintendent of shortages, work with the crew to overcome challenges, and resolve or report scheduling conflicts. The role also involves ensuring completed work meets standards, recommending process improvements, ensuring adherence to job specifications and blueprints, inspecting completed work, preparing reports, maintaining a foreman's log, ensuring daily Task Hazard Analysis (THA) is performed, assisting the superintendent with production and progress reports, maintaining timekeeping records, documenting attendance, and recommending personnel actions.

Requirements

Familiarity with other construction trades and crafts
Knowledge and understanding of OSHA safety regulations as well as company safety policies and procedures
Strong leadership and supervisory skills
Strong oral and written communication skills
Ability to solve problems and resolve conflicts
Ability to manage differences and diversity at the workplace
Strong planning and scheduling skills
Ability to handle administrative duties of position, including completion of required documents
Effective use of computers and other technology
High school degree or equivalent
5+ years’ experience as a qualified tradesperson
OSHA-30 certification (if not currently certified, must be obtained within six (6) months from date of hire)
An active Texas Journeyman Plumber license may be required for individuals performing and supervising work in this field.
Employment is contingent upon active membership in the appropriate local trade union

Responsibilities

Facilitate a safe work culture and ensure crew members adhere to safety standards.

Assess the competency and capability of each crew member and establish benchmarks for quality and productivity.
Assign individual and crew tasks, coordinate on-the-job training for apprentices, and facilitate mentoring.
Set and maintain work standards, outline behavioral expectations, and promote teamwork.
Perform related craftwork along with the crew.
Understand project plans and schedules, and ensure the crew’s daily and weekly activities meet production goals.
Identify and verify the availability of required tools and materials, and communicate needs and deficiencies.
Translate general work requirements into a prioritized plan for individual tasks and assignments.
Review and adjust specific project activities and task schedules to meet established production schedules.
Advise superintendent of equipment and material shortages and work with the crew to overcome work challenges.
Resolve or report any scheduling conflicts with other crews and contractors.
Ensure that completed work meets standards, recommend work processes that will improve productivity and product quality.
Ensure the crew works to job specifications and follows the plans/blueprints.
Inspect completed work and initiate timely resolutions to any problems.
Prepare reports as required and maintain foreman’s log or diary.
Ensure Task Hazard Analysis (THA) is performed and recorded daily.
Assist superintendent with determining project production and work progress, and completing quality reports.
Maintain accurate, daily timekeeping records and document late starts, early outs, and absences.
Recommend personnel actions such as hiring, promotions and discipline.
Perform additional assignments as requested/needed.
