About The Position

The Utility Foreman is responsible for planning, coordinating, and supervising daily utility construction activities while ensuring all work is completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with company policies, project specifications, and regulatory requirements. This position provides leadership to field crews, maintains production schedules, and ensures quality workmanship from project start through completion.

Requirements

  • Experience supervising utility construction crews.
  • Thorough knowledge of underground utility installation methods and construction practices.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA regulations and jobsite safety requirements.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to complete daily reports accurately and on time.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to walk uneven terrain, stand for extended periods, and lift materials as needed.
  • Ability to safely perform duties in active construction environments.

Responsibilities

  • Promote and enforce all company safety policies, OSHA regulations, and jobsite safety standards.
  • Conduct daily safety assessments to identify and mitigate potential hazards.
  • Communicate safety concerns and expectations to all crew members.
  • Ensure jobsites are clean, organized, and left in a safe condition at the end of each workday.
  • Verify that trenches, excavations, structures, and work areas are properly secured and protected.
  • Monitor drainage and sewer line plugs and coordinate their removal when necessary.
  • Conduct regular toolbox talks and safety meetings with the crew.
  • Immediately report safety concerns, incidents, or hazards to the Superintendent and Safety Supervisor.
  • Oversee Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) setup, maintenance, and removal while coordinating with the Safety Department to minimize risk.
  • Supervise daily utility installation activities to ensure work is completed safely, on schedule, and according to project specifications.
  • Coordinate with survey personnel regarding daily and upcoming layout requirements.
  • Ensure installed work is surveyed and documented prior to backfilling.
  • Monitor material inventory and communicate upcoming material needs to the Superintendent to prevent delays.
  • Complete accurate daily production reports, equipment logs, and employee time sheets.
  • Report daily production progress to the Superintendent.
  • Review and understand project plans, specifications, and contract requirements.
  • Ensure all utility installations meet company quality standards and project specifications.
  • Verify delivery documentation and maintain proper records for materials received.
  • Ensure materials are stored, secured, and protected from damage.
  • Anticipate potential project conflicts and develop contingency plans to maintain productivity.
  • Coordinate required inspections and ensure installations meet density testing and quality control requirements.
  • Verify all required mud work and project closeout activities are completed.
