About The Position

As Foreman III - Sheet Metal, you'll serve as a senior field leader, directly supervising and guiding sheet metal crews on commercial HVAC projects to ensure safe, high-quality, on-time, and on-budget execution. Reporting to the Project Superintendent (or equivalent), you'll coordinate daily operations, resolve issues proactively, maintain compliance with codes and standards, mentor technicians, and drive team efficiency while fostering strong client and subcontractor relationships. Requirements

  • Experience: 4+ years in commercial sheet metal installation and fabrication; proven experience running work crews, managing projects, and leading teams (journeyman status or ability to obtain license preferred).
  • Education: High school diploma or GED required; trade school, apprenticeship completion, or equivalent strongly preferred.
  • Certifications/Licenses: Valid driver's license and clean driving record required; OSHA 30-hour certification preferred; SMACNA-related or journeyman sheet metal credentials a plus.
  • Physical Demands: Ability to regularly lift and carry up to 50 lbs, climb ladders/scaffolding/stairs, work in confined spaces or at heights, bend/kneel/crouch, reach overhead, and use tools/equipment for extended periods; frequent standing, walking, manual dexterity, and physical stamina required.
  • Work Environment/Safety: Primarily field-based in commercial/industrial construction settings (indoor/outdoor, varying weather, active job sites); exposure to noise, dust, heights, sharp materials, and mechanical hazards; must strictly adhere to OSHA regulations, conduct hazard identification, and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) such as hard hats, safety glasses, gloves, harnesses, and steel-toed boots at all times—safety is our top priority and non-negotiable. This is a safety-sensitive position. Occasional regional travel within assigned market or on-call rotations may be required as business needs dictate.
  • Proficiency in sheet metal fabrication/installation, SMACNA standards, blueprint reading, layout, and material takeoffs.
  • Strong leadership, crew supervision, mentoring/coaching, and team motivation abilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, problem-solving, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize in fast-paced environments, and provide clear follow-up internally and externally.
  • Safety leadership and commitment to quality/continuous improvement; professional demeanor, self-motivation, and punctuality.
  • Microsoft Office proficiency for reporting and documentation; familiarity with project management tools a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise sheet metal crews on-site: assign tasks based on skills and project needs, monitor progress, provide daily direction, coaching, and hands-on guidance to ensure quality workmanship and safety compliance.
  • Develop solutions to prevent issues from escalating; proactively identify risks and implement corrective actions.
  • Review projects with Superintendent and/or Project Manager after procurement of equipment and subcontractors; conduct physical site surveys, report conditions in writing as required, and contribute to accurate planning.
  • Perform detailed takeoffs and prepare material lists in a timely manner to support efficient execution.
  • Plan, coordinate, and supervise daily on-site functions, including scheduling, material control, tool/equipment rentals, and coordination with shop for production and deliveries.
  • Track and report daily job completion percentages, weekly progress (production, safety/toolbox reports, preconstruction), and any project-specific metrics; ensure all required documentation is completed and submitted on time.
  • Conduct regular job-site inspections to verify adherence to Modigent standards, SMACNA specifications, blueprints, and project requirements; participate in system startups, punch lists, and coordination with contractors, engineers, subcontractors, and owners as needed.
  • Enforce strict safety protocols: lead hazard assessments, toolbox talks, PPE usage, incident documentation, and immediate corrective measures; notify leadership of any incidents and champion a zero-incident culture.
  • Mentor and develop crew members: provide training, feedback, and guidance to improve skills, efficiency, and safety awareness; support team growth and performance.
  • Maintain professional communication with all stakeholders (internal teams, clients, subs, vendors) to resolve conflicts, ensure smooth sequencing, and uphold excellent customer service.
