About The Position

As a Foreman III - Piping, you'll serve as a senior first-line leader in commercial mechanical projects, independently managing larger crews and more complex piping work for wet-side HVAC systems (hydronic heating, chilled water, steam, boilers, chillers, process piping) in buildings, hospitals, schools, and industrial facilities. Reporting to the superintendent, you'll develop and maintain full project schedules, oversee crew performance and safety, coordinate with shop/production teams, and drive efficiency to meet schedule, budget, quality, and client goals. Requirements

  • 4+ years in commercial/industrial piping installation, repair, and maintenance (wet-side HVAC preferred), including 4+ years running work/leading crews; journeyman-level knowledge or ability to obtain relevant license/certification.
  • High school diploma or GED required; trade school, apprenticeship completion, or equivalent preferred.
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record required.
  • Ability to regularly lift and carry up to 50 lbs, climb ladders/scaffolding/stairs, work in confined spaces or at heights, bend/kneel/crouch, reach overhead, and use tools/equipment for extended periods; frequent standing, walking, manual dexterity, and physical stamina required.
  • Advanced pipefitting techniques (layout, threading/grooving, fitting, welding/brazing, pressure testing, leak detection, system balancing).
  • Blueprint reading, material takeoff/list preparation, full project scheduling (start-to-finish), and 8-week look-ahead planning.
  • Crew leadership (any size), task delegation, mentoring/training, and performance monitoring.
  • Safety leadership, effective communication (written/verbal) with teams, superintendents, clients, subcontractors, and vendors.
  • Problem-solving, multitasking, self-motivation, punctuality, and professional demeanor.

Nice To Haves

  • Welding/brazing certification (e.g., AWS) a plus.
  • OSHA 10/30-hour certification encouraged (company support provided).

Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise a piping crew of any size on daily tasks: layout, fabrication, assembly, installation, testing, and repair of piping systems, supports, valves, and equipment per blueprints, specifications, and codes.
  • Develop workable solutions with the superintendent to proactively address potential issues and prevent them from becoming problems.
  • Review projects with the superintendent and/or project manager after equipment/subcontractors are procured; conduct physical site surveys and report conditions/recommendations in writing as required.
  • Perform accurate takeoffs and material lists in a timely manner to support planning and procurement.
  • Plan, coordinate, and supervise on-site functions: crew scheduling, material control/staging, tool/equipment rentals, shop coordination for production/deliveries, and daily progress tracking (including job completion percentages).
  • Prepare and maintain a complete project schedule from start to finish, including an 8-week look-ahead for assigned projects to ensure alignment with overall timelines and resource needs.
  • Ensure all crew members comply with project procedures, safety requirements, company policies, quality expectations, and contractual standards; conduct daily safety briefings, hazard assessments, and toolbox talks.
  • Document incidents immediately, notify superintendent/project manager, recommend corrective actions, and implement them to maintain a safe work environment.
  • Prepare and submit weekly reports (safety/toolbox, production, preconstruction, project-specific) and assure timely office processing.
  • Conduct job-site inspections to verify adherence to standards, participate in system startups/commissioning as needed, and coordinate with subcontractors, engineers, owners, vendors, and shop for production scheduling/deliveries.
  • Mentor and train crew members on advanced piping techniques, safety practices, and best methods; promote team efficiency and continuous improvement.
