About The Position

Performs mosquito abatement under supervision to reduce mosquito numbers and lower the risk of mosquito-borne diseases. This role involves developing a knowledge of mosquito identification, basic mosquito biology, and control, and performing duties as part of an integrated pest management approach to mosquito control. The position also requires completing daily work records, preparing operational reports, training and evaluating crew members, driving and maintaining an assigned vehicle, and ensuring operations comply with the county’s National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System permit. The Foreman II is responsible for assuring a high level of productivity and efficiency, and adherence to all policies and procedures. Additionally, the role involves operating small tools and equipment for maintaining ditches and natural waterways, including removing and trimming vegetation, clearing, maintaining, and digging soil, trash, and objects to improve drainage.

Requirements

Three (3) years of experience in on-the-job or formal work training in pest, mosquito, or vector control
High school diploma or possess a GED
Ability to physically perform assigned tasks.
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to work cooperatively with coworkers and the public.
Ability to express ideas clearly, concisely, and effectively verbally and written.
Knowledge of mosquito diversity, biology, and ecology.
Ability to identify common mosquito pests and vectors by eye in the field.
Knowledge of the use of hand tools and power equipment used in vector control work and their proper maintenance, e.g., shovels, picks, weed eaters, brush cutters, and handheld sprayers.
Knowledge of the names and composition of insecticides as well as their modes of action in killing mosquitoes.
Ability to read and understand pesticide labels and vector control program policies and procedures.
Must possess a valid Tennessee driver’s license or secure one by the date of employment.
Must be able to work weekends, shifts, altered days or hours, and on call.
Must be able to walk on uneven ground, ascend and descend steep inclinations, stoop, squat, crawl, and perform other physical duties as required.
Must be able to work outdoors in diverse weather conditions.
Ability to be physically able to perform tasks such as lift/lower, push/pull objects.
Must successfully pass a physical examination.

Nice To Haves

Must be a Licensed Pest Control Applicator (Public Health Category) or obtain such by the end of probation.
Must maintain all required licenses and certifications throughout the duration of employment.
