About The Position

Reporting to the Operations Manager/Transportation Manager, the Driver Foreman supervises small and medium sized move and install crews to complete projects for commercial customers. This position performs general manual labor and office furniture installation tasks including carrying, loading, unloading, lifting, and moving office furniture and materials. In addition, this position assists with a variety of functions with manual labor tasks as needed. May require loading and unloading trucks from loading dock, using ramps or on lift-gates. May require moderate reading and writing skills with 1-2 years of experience in the field or in a related area. Has knowledge of commonly used office furniture installation and moving concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. This position is also responsible for reporting and escalating any related issues about the job to the Lead Foreman, Supervisor, Project Manager or Account Manager. Typically obtains daily site work role assignments from the Lead Foreman, Supervisor, or Project Manager, however, may also take direction from a Dispatcher, Supervisor, Project Manager, Account Manager, or Operations Supervisor and directly reports to the Operations Manager/Transportation Manager. In addition, this position will use extreme care not to damage goods or facilities during the move, while adhering to all company processes and procedures.

Requirements

  • Please note that this position is subject to pre-employment drug testing, physical and criminal background checks, which include 7-year employment verifications, and verifying Motor Vehicle Report is in compliance with insurance carrier requirements (Clean driving record with no DUI, reckless driving, major accidents, cell phone tickets or felony driving within the last 7 years).
  • May require moderate reading and writing skills with 1-2 years of experience in the field or in a related area.
  • Has knowledge of commonly used office furniture installation and moving concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field.
  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent required; or equivalent experience.
  • Valid California driver’s license is required.
  • Valid driving record that meets the company’s insurance carrier’s requirements.
  • Must be familiar with various moving equipment and proper usage such as Class A tractor trailers, Class C bobtail trucks, pack vans and passenger vans, dollies, carts, pads, straps, pallet jacks, forklifts, ramps, lift gates, and all specialty equipment including but not limited to roll-a-lifts, Genie lifts safe jacks, J bars, etc.
  • Must be able to read and correctly interpret current warehouse and transportation work orders and bills of lading.
  • Must have basic knowledge and understanding of company concepts, practices, and procedures and an understanding of safety and security protocols.
  • Must be able to use good judgement to complete work assignments.
  • Use of proper lifting techniques required.
  • Use of proper safety equipment required.
  • Must complete Mover I & II, and Driver Foreman Corovan University training and pass the written tests. May also be required to pass Driver I & II, and Installer I, II, & III.
  • ORGANIZATION SKILLS - Organization skills, attention to details, and the ability to prioritize in a changing environment.
  • LANGUAGE SKILLS - Ability to read and interpret documents written in English such as procedures, manuals, work orders, inventories, work instructions, and timesheets. Must be able to effectively communicate with customers and coworkers.
  • MATHEMATICAL SKILLS - Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Must be able to formulate in square feet. Ability to read and correctly interpret the legend on installation drawings and read both standard and metric tape measures.
  • REASONING ABILITY - Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • LEADERSHIP - Strong interpersonal, training and leadership skills. Ability to motivate crew to accomplish objectives.
  • COMMUNICATION SKILLS – Ability to effectively communicate with potentially stressful and/or emotional situations. Ability to read and interpret documents written in English such as procedures, work instructions, and timesheets. Ability to speak and communicate well in English with customers and coworkers.

Nice To Haves

  • Two to three (2-3) years’ experience in office moving or warehouse environment preferred.
  • Valid Forklift Certification preferred.
  • Demonstration of experience providing leadership or guidance to other employees in a labor-oriented environment preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Checks for start time (for next day’s work schedule) with dispatch daily.
  • Performs pre-trip check and safely drives vehicles up to and including, Class A tractor trailer and Class C bobtails.
  • May set, offsets, pushes, pulls, lifts, carries, and moves furniture, equipment and boxes as required.
  • Properly loads and unloads trucks from loading dock, using ramps or lift-gates, to protect goods being moved.
  • Completes all paperwork accurately and neatly and turns into operations daily, including timesheets, bills of lading, tick sheets, change orders, inventories, and disposal forms.
  • Must be respectful of rules at each customer site as to where to work and adhere to meal and rest period locations.
  • Must follow all confidentiality rules with regards to any products or services that are visible at the move site.
  • If also a qualified and approved driver, drives trucks up to and including Class A vehicles.
  • Required to drive trucks up to Class A if qualified and approved.
  • Assists the install/move process by communicating with project managers, the end users/customer and other crew members.
  • Handles and stages product, performs detail work and trash-out functions on install projects.
  • Read install plans and identify starting locations, staging locations and changes.
  • If also a qualified installer, installs systems walls and splines, handles and stages product, performs detail work and trash-out functions on install projects.
  • Supervises movers and installers as required to perform a quality job for the customer.
  • Trains crews in proper handling and safety techniques.
  • Promotes a positive workplace with employee engagement.
  • Ensure crews have appropriate meal and rest periods per company policy.
  • Performs work with quality, efficiency, and safety at all times.
  • Must abide by all safety rules; to include proper safety gear (back braces, safety glasses, safety shoes, hard hats, masks and/or gloves, etc. as required by the customer or by law), drive forklifts safely (seatbelt, slow speeds, ensuring trucks are chalked and using proper plates, etc.).
  • Report any unsafe dangerous requests from customers to senior management.
  • Assist Drivers with proactive maintenance of all equipment to ensure operational efficiency and safety compliance.
  • Maintain excellent customer service with the customers, transportation, and operation teams to establish solid relationships.
  • Must be punctual at all times. If an emergency arises, inform the dispatcher and operations manager immediately, so that appropriate coverage can be arranged.
  • Must work cooperatively with members of the crew.
  • Must be courteous, helpful, and professional to all existing and potential customers.
  • Must be respectful of rules at each customer site as to where to work and adhere to meal and rest period locations.
  • Must follow all confidentiality rules regarding any products or services that are visible at a customer’s move site.
  • Must follow all security rules for the company and assigned customers.
  • Provides on-the-job training to install and move crews to ensure quality work is performed.
  • Arrives at Corovan dispatch office (or on-site), in complete uniform every day.
  • Obtains daily work assignments from dispatch or supervisor and stays in work assignment until relieved.
  • Sign timesheets daily signifying your start, meal periods and end time daily, and other documentation is completed accurately and turned in by the time requirement, and ensures all crews sign accordingly.

  • All other duties as assigned based on business needs.
