About The Position

The Shop Foreman / Mechanic is responsible for performing advanced diagnostics, repairs, and preventative maintenance on electric, diesel, and gasoline-powered buses and vans operated by Panhandle Transit. This position provides day-to-day technical leadership within the shop and may function at either a Class A or Class B level, depending on qualifications and experience. The role supports operational efficiency, safety compliance, and high-quality service delivery.

Requirements

  • Minimum of six (6) years of automotive mechanic experience preferred
  • Associate’s degree in automotive technology or related field OR equivalent combination of education training, and hands-on experience
  • Diesel engine experience preferred
  • Must hold a valid driver’s license at all times
  • Hold or obtain a Class A or B mechanic certification preferred

  • Class A or Class B designation depending on qualifications and experience

Responsibilities

  • Perform mechanical repair and maintenance duties consistent with Class A or Class B designation
  • Diagnose and repair complex mechanical and electrical issues across fleet vehicles
  • Assist the Director of Maintenance with planning, coordination, and special projects
  • Ensure compliance with all safety standards, policies, and procedures
  • Provide guidance, support, and oversight to mechanics and technicians as assigned
  • Troubleshoot electrical systems including starters, motors, wiring, relays, and circuits
  • Diagnose and repair gasoline and diesel engine systems
  • Maintain and repair vehicle systems including: Fuel and lubrication systems, Cooling systems, Transmissions, Suspension and body components, Air conditioning systems
  • Perform preventative maintenance inspections and scheduled servicing
  • Utilize manuals and diagnostic tools to identify parts and repair procedures
  • Inspect and repair wheelchair lifts and accessibility equipment
  • Monitor parts usage and promote cost-effective repair practices
  • Evaluate quality and timeliness of completed work
  • Maintain effective communication with internal stakeholders regarding repairs and timelines
  • Serve in a lead capacity and assume duties of the Director of Maintenance in their absence, as needed
  • Work outside of standard hours as required for operations, emergencies, or training
  • Conducts self and performs work in an ethical manner in accordance with PCS standards of conduct, and other applicable policies
  • Attendance and participation in organizational team meetings and all staff days is required, some of which may be off site and on weekends
