About The Position

Atkinson Construction is seeking a skilled and experienced Foreman Carpenter to lead crews on commercial projects in Alberta. This role offers a development path towards a Site Superintendent position. The Foreman Carpenter will work hands-on with the crew, providing direction, mentoring, and leadership to ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and to a high standard of quality. Requirements

  • Journeyman Carpenter Certificate (or equivalent experience in a lead/supervisory carpentry role)
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints; familiarity with Alberta Building Code requirements
  • Experience with wood framing, interior and exterior finishing, concrete formwork, rebar, thermal and moisture systems, and related scopes
  • Demonstrated leadership ability — you can direct a crew, mentor others, and hold the line on quality and safety
  • Strong communication skills with supervisors, trades, and site staff
  • Valid driver's license (driver's abstract may be required)
  • Familiarity with temporary site setup, site security, and equipment operation

Responsibilities

  • Lead daily crew activities and keep projects moving toward deadlines, performance targets, and quality goals
  • Work hands-on alongside carpenters and labourers while providing direction, task assignments, and mentorship
  • Oversee and review work completed by ACL staff and subcontractors; report concerns to the Site Superintendent
  • Act as secondary site contact when the Superintendent is unavailable or offsite
  • Enforce ACL safety standards and OHS regulations; ensure safe work practices are followed at all times
  • Assist with daily safety reports, toolbox talks, hazard assessments, and site records
  • Conduct orientations for new ACL staff and subcontractors as per ACL's Safety Program
  • Monitor equipment for safety and maintenance concerns; stop unsafe use immediately
  • Train and mentor crew members in carpentry skills and safe work practices
  • Identify deficiencies and lead corrective work; ensure daily goals align with the overall project schedule
  • Assist in tracking crew hours and coordinating material needs with the Superintendent
