About The Position

Provide accurate and timely communication (interpretation and translation) with non-English speaking families as needed. Remain on the interpreter list for as needed interpretation, as coordinated by the Language Supports and Services team.

Requirements

  • Criminal background check and fingerprinting required
  • High School Equivalency (HSE) diploma or higher
  • Bilingual in English and foreign language as determined by required district assessment, applicant is responsible for the assessment fee
  • Advanced knowledge of educational terms, phrases, and acronyms in English and foreign language
  • Intermediate knowledge of inter-cultural communication including sociology-linguistic diversity and variance
  • Skilled in interpersonal relations
  • Ability to work with others in a team setting
  • Operating knowledge of and experience with word processing and interpreting system
  • Knowledge of translation software and features for Microsoft Word is required within six months after hire

Nice To Haves

  • One (1) year of professional work experience preferred
  • Experience working in the public sector, specifically public education

Responsibilities

  • Interpret consecutively and/or simultaneously for parents during parent/teacher conferences, IEP meetings, expulsion hearings and student disciplinary hearings, admissions process, and at school and district meetings and events as needed.
  • Facilitate communication and understanding between families, school, and community while maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.
  • Translate documents for distribution including handbooks; guides; legal notices; forms; policies and regulations; discipline and internet use documents; relevant applications, etc. Utilize a variety of tools including software, dictionaries, publications, Web-based research, etc. Implement district processes for document submission.
  • Attend interpreter trainings when provided by the district.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or requested.
