About The Position

Air Reserve Technicians are full-time civilian employees who are also members of the Air Force Reserve unit in which they are employed. In addition to their civilian assignments, they are assigned to equivalent positions in the Reserve organization with a Reserve military rank or grade. Appointee's civilian assignments will consist of the following duties. The primary purpose of this position is to serve as the Force Support Squadron (FSS) Commander/Operations Officer. The position is an Air Reserve Technician (ART)-Officer Position. The incumbent serves as the Senior Air Reserve Technician. The primary role of an ART is to train other reservists. They may be called upon to plan and/or conduct training of reservists during the normal workday, training assemblies, and when reservists are on active duty training. This position plans, organizes, and manages the activities and support services of the organization. Incumbent makes technical and executive decisions for the squadron in all areas of functional responsibility.

• SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-11, or equivalent in other pay systems.

• This is an Air Reserve Technician (ART) position. The incumbent is required to meet and maintain Air Force Reserve requirements.
• The incumbent's regular assignments are primarily ART duties; however, the incumbent may also be assigned some non-ART duties, generally not exceed 30% of total responsibilities.
• Work schedule will be aligned to allow incumbent to fully participate in unit training assemblies (UTA).
• Incumbent must be willing to move/transfer to another unit/location on a lateral or promotion as directed by HQ AFRC.

• Works for the Commander, Mission Support Squadron/Division as full deputy, sharing in the overall management of the organization and direction of subordinate flight supervisors.
• Supervision is received in terms of overall goals and objectives.
• The employee is responsible for planning and carrying out the assignment, resolving most of the conflicts that arise, coordinating the work with MAJCOM staff and other functionals as necessary and interpreting policy in terms of established objectives.
• The employee is heavily relied upon in all matters, interpretation, and judgment.
• The employee carries out assignments with a view to developing efficiency and effectiveness within the squadron/division and directorate.
• Keeps the supervisor informed of potential controversial issues and results of resolution.
• The final product is reviewed for soundness of judgment, adequacy of justification, and effectiveness of presentation.

Responsibilities

• Plans, organizes, and oversees the full complement of activities within the Force Support Squadron, such complements could include but are not limited to Prime Ribs, Personnel/Human Resources, Education & Training, Airman, Family Readiness, Communications, Security Forces and, in some instances, Civil Engineering, etc.
• Exercises supervisory personnel management responsibilities. Directs, coordinates, and oversees work of unit personnel through subordinate supervisors. Advises staff regarding policies, procedures, and directives of the installation commander or headquarters.
• Makes a periodic, comprehensive assessment and evaluation of program goals/objectives which provide a basis for long-range planning to enhance the organization's management support capabilities.
• Represents the Force Support Squadron with a variety of installation and functional area organizations. Establishes, develops, and maintains effective working relationships with other organizations, outside agencies, and senior leadership.
