About The Position

Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin is seeking a FoodShare Outreach Specialist to conduct outreach and educate the public about FoodShare benefits at various community locations. This role involves collaborating with community organizations to increase FoodShare applications, screening clients, assisting with applications through the Wisconsin ACCESS portal, and providing guidance on rights and benefits. The position is based at the St. Croix Valley Food Bank but is supervised and funded by Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin.

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university.
  • Minimum of 1 year of related outreach experience.
  • Strong ability to set priorities and work independently while also being part of a team.
  • Professional written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
  • Intermediate-to-advanced Microsoft Office Suite software and computer skills.
  • Ability to learn ACCESS online software.
  • Ability to travel throughout the indicated territory on a weekly basis for outreach, application appointments, and meetings.
  • Ability to develop extensive knowledge of FoodShare within 3 months of employment.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs.
  • A positive, team-oriented mindset with a "can-do" approach.
  • Valid driver’s license, automobile insurance meeting Wisconsin state minimum liability requirements, and transportation to travel to work sites.
  • Ability to work safely following FAEW safety procedures.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Successful completion of a background check and other pre-employment requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute outreach plans for partner organizations, including schools, housing sites, and nonprofit collaborators.
  • Build relationships with community businesses and organizations to facilitate client referrals for FoodShare application assistance.
  • Maintain ongoing partner relationships through regular communication, including virtual and occasional in-person meetings.
  • Support the Director of Government Programs in volunteer outreach, onboarding, training, mentoring, scheduling, and coordination.
  • Provide statewide FoodShare Helpline telephonic assistance, connecting people to resources and application support.
  • Create and update FoodShare application training materials, guides, videos, and outreach materials.
  • Share expertise for the development of promotional strategies and collaterals.
  • Provide detailed explanations of FoodShare benefits to applicants.
  • Screen potentially-eligible clients using the State of Wisconsin’s ACCESS online application tool.
  • Provide personalized FoodShare application assistance using online and paper application processes.
  • Submit clients’ verification documentation to the local FoodShare office.
  • Act as a liaison for future client follow-up and communication.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of clients’ personal information.
  • Collect and report required data in a timely manner.
  • Participate in mandatory food bank and statewide FoodShare Outreach team activities and meetings.
  • Work effectively as a member of the food bank staff and the FoodShare Outreach team.
  • Coordinate local FoodShare outreach to achieve and exceed local goals while maintaining strong connection with statewide program goals.
  • Identify and act on problems, making solution-focused decisions in consultation with supervisor.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
