Job SummaryThe Fellow position is an entry level full-time position for recent college graduates within Bon Appétit Management Company. The Fellow will be assigned to a region of the country (West Coast or Central), with a primary focus on raising awareness about social and environmental issues related to the food system for guests and employees in their region. The Bon Appétit Fellowship is an opportunity for recent college graduates of campuses that are served by Bon Appétit to promote food and sustainability education within campus communities and the food service industry at large. A Fellow serves as a traveling food systems educator, working closely with Bon Appétit chefs, managers, professors, campus organizations, and students to deepen understanding of the importance of Bon Appétit’s purchasing policies while supporting food and sustainability-related programs on college campuses. Fellows will plan dynamic visits to college campuses with the goal of strengthening campus food systems. The position is generally a one-year position with the possibility of a second year by mutual agreement. The chosen applicant will work remotely from their choice of a short list of locations within their assigned region that have been selected based on proximity to a higher density of accounts. Requirements

  • 4-year college degree in Environmental Science, Public Health, Communications, Hospitality, Wellness and Nutrition, or related area; or a 4-year college degree in another area, with strong experience in food systems, sustainability, food service, etc.
  • Past attendance at a college or university where Bon Appétit managed the food is required
  • A strong track record of interest and experience working on sustainable food and agriculture issues
  • Knowledge of environmental, social, and public health issues related to food and agriculture
  • Strong organizational skills with great attention to detail and ability to manage multiple and competing priorities
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills, including comfort speaking publicly
  • Self-starter with ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Ability to think critically and to effectively deal with unique challenges as they arise
  • Ability to spend up to 80% of time traveling and work independently and from home when not traveling; flexible schedule to include occasional evenings and weekends

Responsibilities

  • Visit cafés within the assigned region and facilitate plans to engage the community and culinary teams in discussions about social and environmental issues in the food system.
  • Work with a flexible calendar and schedule campus visits to fit each Fellows’ preference for interaction style, interests, and approach, that include classroom visits, farm visits, presentations, and student group meetings
  • Special projects, as assigned, to further current or potential sustainability commitments and initiatives, such as local purchasing, waste reduction and prevention, campus farms and gardens, and plant-forward commitments
  • Write and edit communications materials, including blog posts, social media posts, and articles about activities hosted on campus visits, Farm to Fork vendor visits, and other activities or projects undertaken in the role, and create marketing materials and presentations in Canva to host and to promote events
