About The Position

The Sustainability Engineer will provide strategic, tactical and hands-on support to help achieve ZincFive’s long-term sustainability goals and effectively manage sustainability related risks. The Sustainability Engineer will lead cross-functional projects with the goal of implementing solutions pertaining to ZincFive’s sustainability strategy. The position is responsible for collaborating on external reporting, customer diligence requests, and regulatory compliance in coordination with relevant stakeholders. The ideal candidate will have experience in developing Life Cycle Assessments (“LCAs”) of hardware products and chemical processes as well as publishing Environmental Product Declarations (“EPDs”). This position may be worked remotely or at ZincFive headquarters in Tualatin, Oregon and reports to the Sr. Vice President Technology & Engineering.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in Sustainability, Engineering, Environmental Sciences, Environmental Social Governance (ESG) or similar
  • 3-5 years of experience in sustainability engineering or related field
  • Experience with LCA development and the use of LCA modeling software such as GaBi, SimaPro, or the like
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes and customer support experience
  • Familiarity with corporate safety programs and ISO 14001 standards
  • Effective communication, presentation and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate and influence across all levels of the organization
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills
  • Expert in sustainability issues and how they can be integrated in a business environment to create measurable value
  • Knowledge of current manufacturing sustainability challenges and initiatives
  • Experience working in a matrixed environment with multiple cross functional stakeholders

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in GHG accounting/inventory, reporting, and monitoring required
  • Experience in reporting to sustainability rating agencies (e.g., EcoVadis)
  • Experience with regulatory compliance as well as voluntary disclosure such as CDP and familiarity with frameworks such as TCFD
  • Training in the circular economy, responsible sourcing and minerals, raw material qualification
  • Ability to evaluate financial data and apply basic financial principles

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to conduct comprehensive assessments to evaluate material environmental impacts of our operations and products
  • Identify areas for improvement and help develop strategies to minimize our carbon footprint, reduce waste, conserve resources, and increase the recycled content of our products
  • Manage the development of LCA reports and third-party verified EPDs for our products
  • Responsible for contributing knowledge, setting targets, and measuring results for all environmental initiatives
  • Responsible for tracking data related to sustainability efforts across the business
  • Spearhead external sustainability reporting, including customer diligence requests and annual company sustainability reports in coordination with HR, EH&S, and Compliance departments
  • Partner with ZincFive leadership to develop a sustainability strategy that aligns with ZincFive’s near-term and long-term sustainability goals
  • Determine and communicate progress and risks to ZincFive’s sustainability goals
  • Identify and distribute pertinent metrics to measure progress on sustainability goals
  • Work with cross-functional teams to identify and develop energy management, waste reduction, water conservation, and sustainable design strategies
