The Food Support Worker is responsible for storing, preparing, and serving food to youth and staff in a secure juvenile detention facility. The position works at assigned stations in the food service area and prepares foods from preliminary stages through cooking, including foods and supplemental items for special diets. Food is prepared according to recipes, pull sheets, established menus, and special diet orders directed by the Food Service Director or other administrative staff. The worker interprets menus and fills meals correctly, and sets up and breaks down the food service line as assigned. The role includes cleaning in the kitchen, storage areas, dish room, and food service line; washing dishes and utensils according to approved sanitation methods; disposing of refuse; and helping load and unload delivery trucks. The worker completes Child Nutrition Program documentation, temperature logs, storage records, production records, and assigned reports, and may assist with food, supply, small-wares, and equipment inventories. Food service equipment must be used safely, and food safety and Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) requirements must be followed throughout food preparation, storage, serving, and cleaning. The position is at the Orange Regional Juvenile Detention Center in Orlando, Florida. Due to the facility’s 24/7 operation, employees work rotating shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, with varying days off. Overtime may be required with little or no notice, and employees may need to flex out or alter their schedules. Employment is contingent on successful drug and background screenings.
