About The Position

The Fund for Public Health in New York City (FPHNYC) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to advancing the health and well-being of all New Yorkers. In partnership with the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH), FPHNYC incubates innovative public health initiatives. This position will support work around the NYC Food Standards that apply to various settings including food and beverage vending machines, meetings and events, and retail settings like cafeterias and cafes. The Bureau of Chronic Disease Prevention (BCDP) aims to reduce chronic diseases by focusing on nutrition, tobacco use, the built environment, and reducing the impact of cancer and hypertension, acknowledging the role of structural forces and social injustices in health outcomes. BCDP collaborates with government, healthcare systems, and communities to implement evidence-based policies and programs.

Requirements

  • Candidate must have completed their first semester in a master’s level program in nutrition or public health.
  • Candidates studying research evaluation or public policy will also be considered.
  • Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, creative thinking, and follow through
  • Superior writing skills and ability to communicate effectively
  • Knowledge of the Microsoft Suite, including PowerPoint and Excel
  • Residency in the New York City Tri-state area (NY, NJ, CT)

Nice To Haves

  • Culinary background strongly preferred
  • Experience with ESHA Food Processor or a similar nutrition analysis software a plus

Responsibilities

  • Research food product nutrition information
  • Conduct data entry and assist with interpretation of findings
  • Support nutrition analysis and recipe development projects for foodservice settings
  • Assist with and conduct site visits, trainings, technical assistance, and Food Standards assessments
  • Create technical tools, guides, and promotional materials to support NYC Food Standards implementation
  • Draft briefs, prepare presentations, and develop website content
  • Conduct literature reviews and summarize scientific articles to inform program development and strategy
  • Other duties as assigned to support the overall goals and mission of the department/organization.
