About The Position

Campus Dining invites applications for a Foodservice worker in or Rocky Mathey College Dining Hall at Princeton University. In alignment with the core values of the Department of Campus Dining, the Foodservice Worker is responsible for cold food preparation, front-of-house service and ware-washing. The Foodservice Worker is responsible for all levels of customer service and for maintaining the kitchen and stations in a clean, safe and orderly fashion. This position offers a recurring academic year schedule, making it an excellent opportunity for candidates seeking employment aligned with the higher education calendar. Employees do not work during the summer months and dates are per the University academic calendar. University benefits for this position are included for a full calendar year.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED or at least one (1) year of relevant experience.
  • Must have excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and respectfully with a diverse population.
  • Must have strong multi-tasking skills and be able to work in a fast-paced diverse environment.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including weekends, extended and evening hours, and required work outside of the assigned unit.
  • Must be able to meet the needs of an essential personnel position.
  • Must comply with Campus Dining protocols and procedures, including safety and uniform standards.
  • Must have knowledge of food preparation and ability to coordinate tasks to meet production deadlines.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with digital and analog thermometers and utilize scales and other measuring devices.
  • Skilled in presenting and garnishing food.
  • Experience with a variety of kitchen and service equipment including dish machines, steamers, ovens, slicers, choppers, mixers, blenders, various hot and cold beverage dispensers, coffee brewers, espresso/cappuccino machines, flash freezer, and various hand tools.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares cold food items for the mienu in accordance with the established recipes, portion sizes, quality, and taste adjustments. May prepare product to be used in salad production and may assist in food production at the direction of a cook or other culinary team member during peak demand or for training purposes.
  • Maintains the dishroom, kitchen equipment, servery and related areas in a safe and sanitary condition at all times. Adheres to the policy of “clean as you go.” Assists in the daily, weekly, and periodic cleaning and maintenance duties.
  • Corrects or reports any safety or sanitation hazards.
  • Participates in taking, observing and recording food temperatures and equipment temperatures in accordance with Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP) policies and principles.
  • Performs card checking duties for Campus Dining patrons as needed.
  • Maintains the storage areas, utilizing proper storage techniques, including enforcing first in/first out (FIFO) policies for all food products.
  • Supports the department’s sustainability initiatives including but not limited to proper recycling.
  • Assists with production, service, and cleanup of special functions.
  • Demonstrates flexibility in working in all related areas and stations relative to the unit.
  • Participates in training as required.
  • Represents Campus Dining to patrons in a positive, professional manner.
  • Perform other tasks as directed by University Management
  • Adheres to the policies and procedures of the Department of Campus Dining and Princeton University.
