About The Position

The Food Service Worker will be responsible for preparing, heating, and serving meals, as well as managing client supplies and meal distribution across all shifts. This role ensures that all food services comply with health regulations and safety codes. The position requires maintaining the cleanliness and organization of dining and food storage areas, receiving deliveries, and participating in ongoing training to enhance both operational and interpersonal skills. Effective communication with interdisciplinary staff is essential for achieving facility goals.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Must have a valid NYC DOHMH Food protection Certificate or other NYC DOHMH approved food handling certificate.
  • 1-year experience working with homeless or special needs population
  • Excellent communication skills

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, heat and serve meals.
  • Distribute and control the inventory client supplies, including the distribution of meals on all shifts.
  • Ensures that food services meet health regulations and safety codes.
  • Maintain cleanliness of the dining area: including, cleaning up after all meals.
  • Understands weights and measures as it relates to portion control.
  • Maintain the service and preparation areas in a clean and organized manner.
  • Receive all incoming food deliveries, maintain the cleanliness and order of all food storage areas.
  • Attend on-going training for all food service staff, this includes required trainings set forth from DOH and DHS.
  • Participate in training and staff-development activities to acquire and maintain both the interpersonal and operational skills necessary for successful job performance.
  • Communicate effectively with other staff within an interdisciplinary context to contribute to the achievement of facility goals and objectives.
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned by supervisory staff.
