Requirements

  • Must be able to read and write English as well as be able to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Must have training and experience in quantity food production and service.
  • Required to hold a valid Food Handler Certificate.
  • Minimum Grade 12 education.
  • Must be reliable, conscientious, neat, clean, and demonstrate tact and courtesy in dealing with others.
  • Must be flexible and able to work to deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Works collaboratively with other team members; deals tactfully and courteously with residents, residents’ families, visitors and all health team members.
  • Promotes a positive team spirit within the department and residence.
  • Able to enjoy working with the elderly.
  • Prepares documentation as required according to residence policy.
  • Adheres to policies and procedures, safety rules and safe work practices.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Maintain the safety and cleanliness of the department. Comply with health and safety legislation and departmental safe job procedures.
  • Prepare and serve meals. This includes the re-therming of the cook-chill entrées, texture modifications, thickening, preparation and service of beverages, breakfast items, vegetables, nourishment items, salads, desserts and assigned catering.
  • Serve meals and beverages to promote a fine dining/nourishment break experience, serve one course at a time, follow residents’ diets, texture modifications and food preferences, using proper portion sizes according to the therapeutic extensions and nourishment rotation.
  • Receive and store incoming food and supplies. Monitoring quality of food supplies received and advise supervisor of problems.
  • Report food, supply and equipment needs to Supervisor. Make recommendations about corrective action.
  • Set, clean and sanitize dining tables.
  • Wash dishes, utensils, bowls, pots, etc. check temperatures, chemicals.
