Food Service Worker
About The Position
Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) is seeking a Food Services Worker for Squamish Hospital in Squamish, BC. The position promotes a safe and respectful working environment for patients, residents, families, visitors and staff. Reporting to the Coordinator and/or the Manager, Food Services, and receiving work direction from the Food Service Supervisor and/or the Cook, the Food Service Worker performs a variety of duties according to Food Safe protocols and quality and safety standards.
Requirements
- Grade 10 plus one year’s recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
- Food Safe Certificate Level 1
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
- Ability to deal with others effectively
- Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position
- Ability to organize work
- Ability to operate related equipment
Responsibilities
- Portioning and serving meals
- Assisting with food production by washing and peeling vegetables and fruit
- Preparing coffee/tea and toast
- Portioning desserts and assembling sandwiches and salads
- Preparing and portioning diet items in accordance with nutritional plans
- Measuring and combining food and beverage ingredients by methods such as grinding, blending, slicing, dicing and/or puree
- Checking patient/resident meals/trays to ensure dietary accuracy
- Stripping wagons/trays
- Washing dishes and pots
- Cleaning food wagons, kitchen equipment, fridges and storage areas
- Wiping down tables and counter areas
- Sweeping and damp mopping floors
- Removing garbage
- Delivering wagons/trays to patient/resident units
- Retrieving and storing food items
- Replenishing food, beverage and paper supplies
- Performing related clerical duties
- May operate a cash register and related equipment
- May receive payments and provide change for items purchased
- Answers customer queries
