About The Position

Under supervision of cook, perform varied tasks in food preparation and services. May be assigned to specific responsibilities of assistant cook, dishwasher, cashier, snack bar attendant, or food delivery. This is a 6.5 hours per day, 184 days per year position, including holidays, on-going. Benefits eligible.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or G.E. D.
  • Previous experience in large-scale food preparation.
  • Valid Washington State Food Handler’s Permit required.
  • Valid Washington State driver's license and good driving record required for food delivery position.
  • Knowledge of food preparation methods and procedures.
  • Ability to read and comprehend written or verbal instructions.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide whole numbers, fractions and percentages.
  • Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume and distance.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the community.
  • Ability to work in a friendly manner with co-workers and students.
  • Knowledge and ability to effectively supervise kitchen in a positive and productive manner.
  • Good organizational, management, and leadership skills.
  • Knowledge and experience in safety and sanitary guidelines and practices.
  • Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out basic written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Ability to perform job and communicate in a noisy environment.
  • Frequently required to walk and continuously required to stand.
  • Frequently bend or twist at the neck and trunk.
  • Occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
  • Continuously uses hand strength to grasp tools.
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds such as milk crates, frozen foods, canned food, etc.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Meet deadlines with severe time constraints and interact with public and other workers.

Responsibilities

  • Under supervision of cook, assist with food preparation, such as salads and sandwiches preparation and package sack lunches.
  • Serve food along lunch lines or serve a la carte lunches.
  • Cashier for lunch line and/or snack bar.
  • Perform cleaning duties of all kitchen/cafeteria equipment to ensure cleanliness and sanitary conditions are met.
  • Assistant cook may be required to substitute for cook.
  • The snack bar cashier will be responsible for balancing cash with inventory accounts.
  • Assist in stocking storage areas and refrigerators.
  • May transport bulk or prepared food to satellite kitchens from main production kitchen.
  • Transport food delivery containers back to main kitchen.
  • Follow all safety rules and regulations.
  • Follow motor vehicle driving regulations if operating a district vehicle.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
