About The Position

CW is hiring a Mess Attendant/Food Service Worker to help keep military dining areas clean, organized, and running smoothly. No experience is required—just reliability, a positive attitude, and a willingness to learn. We’ll train you every step of the way. This role is part of the AbilityOne Program, a federal program that helps adults with disabilities find jobs and receive support services.

Requirements

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds regularly.
  • Must be able to stand and walk for long periods, often on hard or slippery surfaces.
  • Frequent use of hands and arms for cleaning, lifting, and handling kitchen equipment.
  • Requires bending, kneeling, and reaching to complete routine tasks.
  • Exposure to hot surfaces, steam, and dishwashing equipment, with occasional work in cold areas like refrigerators or freezers.
  • Work environment may be noisy due to equipment and kitchen activity.
  • Floors may be wet or humid—non-slip footwear may be required for safety.
  • Regular use of cleaning chemicals; proper PPE such as gloves and aprons must be worn.
  • Good vision, hearing, and hand coordination are needed for safe and efficient work.

Responsibilities

  • Start your shift by setting up your work area, gathering supplies, and preparing the dish station.
  • Collect, sort, and rinse dirty dishes from the dining and service areas.
  • Run dishes through the commercial dish machine and hand-wash pots and pans that need extra cleaning.
  • Sanitize and put away clean dishes so they’re ready for the next meal.
  • Keep the galley clean by sweeping, mopping, wiping surfaces, and removing food scraps throughout the shift.
  • Empty trash and recycling, replace liners, and follow proper disposal procedures.
  • Reset the dining area between meals by wiping tables, refilling condiments, and restocking napkins and supplies.
  • Assist with meal-service setup by stocking trays, utensils, cups, and other serving items.
  • Follow supervisor instructions to maintain military sanitation and safety standards.
  • Work with your team during busy mealtimes to keep service running smoothly.
  • End your shift by completing final cleaning tasks, putting away supplies, checking out with your supervisor, and leaving the area ready for the next crew.
