About The Position

ASRC Federal Field Services, a Subsidiary of ASRC Federal Holding Company, is currently seeking a Food Service Worker at the Plum Island Animal Disease Research Center, located on Plum Island, NY. This role provides support to cafeteria operations at a research facility. The position involves working as a team member and/or independently in a cafeteria kitchen, with responsibility for the operation of a small cafeteria. Key duties include planning and directing kitchen operations such as purchasing, inventory control, food production, and menu planning. The role also involves performing tasks related to the preparation and serving of food and beverages, setting up and breaking down food counters, and assisting in the preparation of meals for cafeteria takeout. Operation of cafeteria equipment, cleaning of work areas and utensils, and proper food storage are also essential functions. The Food Service Worker will prepare a variety of foods according to customer orders or supervisor instructions, package take-out foods, serve patrons, and assist cooks and kitchen staff with various tasks.

Requirements

  • HS Diploma or GED
  • 2 years’ experience assisting with cafeteria operations.
  • Perform physical activities that require considerable use of your whole body.
  • Utilization of appropriate PPE (personal protective equipment) such as safety shoes, hard hats, hearing, and eye protection is required.
  • Ability to climb ladders, reach overhead and lift to 50lbs.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support to cafeteria operations at a research facility.
  • Work as team member and/or independently in a cafeteria kitchen.
  • Responsible for the operation of a small cafeteria.
  • Plan and direct the overall kitchen operations including purchasing, inventory control, and food production and planning menus.
  • Perform tasks concerned with preparation and serving of food and beverages.
  • Set up and break down food counter.
  • Assists in preparation of hot and cold meals, salads, soups and desserts for cafeteria takeout use.
  • Operate cafeteria equipment such as dishwasher, meat slicer, small kitchen appliances, etc.
  • Clean work areas, equipment, utensils, dishes, and silverware.
  • Store food in designated containers and storage areas to prevent spoilage.
  • Prepare a variety of foods according to customers' orders or supervisors' instructions, following approved procedures.
  • Package take-out foods or serve food to customers.
  • Portion and wrap the food or place it directly on plates for service to patrons.
  • Assist cooks and kitchen staff with various tasks as needed and provide cooks with needed items.
  • Wash, peel and/or cut various foods to prepare for cooking or serving.
