About The Position

Under the direction of the Director of Nutrition Services and Nutrition Services Supervisor, the Food Service Worker assists the Food Service Lead in the preparation and serving of food at an assigned food service facility. This role is also responsible for maintaining food service facilities in a clean and sanitary condition.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Current Food Handler's Card (or able to qualify for a valid Food Handler's Certificate upon being hired)
  • Two Letters of Recommendation with Signature (dated within the past year)
  • Knowledge of methods of preparing sandwiches, salads, vegetables and other foods for cooking and consumption.
  • Knowledge of proper methods of storing equipment, materials and supplies.
  • Knowledge of sanitation and safety practices related to cooking and serving food.
  • Knowledge of standard kitchen equipment, utensils and measurements.
  • Basic math skills.
  • Ability to prepare and set-up food for service to students and staff.
  • Ability to serve food to students and staff according to established procedures.
  • Ability to maintain food service equipment and facilities in clean and sanitary condition.
  • Ability to operate basic kitchen equipment, appliances and utensils in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide and make change quickly and accurately.
  • Ability to meet schedules and time lines.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others.
  • Ability to lift objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Washes and prepares eating and serving areas; sets up steam tables; sets out trays, food and beverages.
  • Portions and serves food to students and staff according to established procedures.
  • Prepares fruits, vegetables and other foods for serving or cooking; assists in preparing foods such as salads, hot and cold sandwiches, sliced meats and sliced or grated cheese.
  • Maintains work areas and serving areas in a sanitary manner; washes and cleans counters and steam tables; cleans and stores plates, utensils, pots and pans, trays and kitchen equipment.
  • Assists in storing unused food and supplies according to established procedures; disposes of unusable leftovers and garbage.
  • Operates and cleans a variety of standard kitchen equipment such as dishwasher, slicers, graters, can openers, steam tables, ovens and plastic wrap sealing machine.
  • Provides work direction to student helpers as assigned.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
