About The Position

This role is responsible for overseeing the inmate/detainee worker program in a correctional facility kitchen. Key duties include training workers on proper sanitation and kitchen tasks, preparing food according to standards, maintaining a safe and clean environment, managing deliveries and inventory, and ordering supplies. The position requires strong communication, organizational, and time management skills, as well as proficiency in Microsoft Office. The role involves working in a fast-paced, potentially stressful environment with exposure to varying temperatures and humidity.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited senior high school or equivalent or GED.
  • Wage-earning experience in correctional, commercial, or institutional food preparation service management OR eighteen months of correctional custody or law enforcement experience.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.

Nice To Haves

  • Correctional or institutional food service experience preferred.
  • Experience in the supervision of employees or offenders preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees inmate/detainee worker program, including orientation, training, and daily task assignment and supervision.
  • Prepares food items in accordance with departmental standards, recipes, and work instructions, or instructs inmate/detainee labor in these tasks.
  • Follows facility housekeeping and safety practices for meal preparation, oversight, and serving.
  • Checks in deliveries, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and correct temperatures; stocks food and supplies promptly.
  • Compiles weekly kitchen inventory, maintains computer and physical inventory records, and orders necessary food and supplies.
  • Adjusts menus as needed due to food cost fluctuations.
