About The Position

Cristo Rey Orlando High School is seeking a dependable, detail-oriented Food Service Worker to support daily meal service for students and staff. This role plays a direct part in making sure students are fed well and the kitchen runs smoothly every day. The Food Service Worker will assist with daily meal preparation, portioning, food handling, and serving students and staff during meal times. They will also be responsible for accurately counting and tracking meals, student service numbers, and food inventory to maintain compliance and proper reporting. Additionally, the role involves handling food deliveries, properly storing supplies, and maintaining organized kitchen inventory. A key aspect of this position is maintaining high standards of kitchen cleanliness, performing routine cleaning duties, and regularly executing temperature logging to ensure full health code compliance. The Food Service Worker will also perform other duties and special projects as assigned by the School Cafeteria Manager.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • Basic understanding of safe food handling, hygiene, and sanitation practices.
  • Previous experience in food service, commercial kitchen operations, customer service, or a high-volume food preparation setting.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift items up to 30-50 lbs (such as food crates or heavy pots) continuously throughout a shift, and comfort working in varying kitchen environments (e.g., near ovens, hot steam tables, or walk-in freezers).
  • Strong customer service skills with a warm, supportive, and respectful attitude toward students, faculty, and staff.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment, and maintain punctual attendance.
  • Ability to successfully pass standard school background checks.

Nice To Haves

  • 1-2+ years of experience working in commercial kitchens, school nutrition programs, catering, or high-volume food service settings.
  • Experience working in a school or institutional cafeteria setting.
  • ServSafe or other food handler certification.
  • Familiarity with operating a commercial kitchen and its equipment.
  • Understanding of specialized dietary needs and accommodations.
  • Dependable and well organized, with strong communication skills and the willingness to step into a guiding role as needed.
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English).
  • Contributes to a positive, inclusive school culture and is dedicated to supporting the school's mission and values.
